VW Golf Airbag Warning: Rollover Sensor Issues Explained

My VW Golf Hybrid 2015 shows an airbag warning light and stored error codes. The safety system appears to be malfunctioning, and initial diagnosis points to a possible rollover sensor issue. Has anyone encountered similar warning signals? The airbag sensor seems particularly sensitive lately. Looking for insights from others who had this fixed, specifically what the repair shop found and how they resolved it. Most interested in actual repair experiences and costs involved rather than general suggestions. Would appreciate hearing about successful fixes and workshop diagnoses.

Had similar trouble with my VW Golf Hybrid 2014. Based on some experience working with car electronics, I recognize these rollover sensor and SRS sensor issues can be tricky. My airbag warning light came on suddenly and stayed on. The workshop diagnosed it as a faulty control unit affecting the vehicle safety systems, particularly the airbag sensor setup. They found the rollover sensor was getting incorrect signals due to the defective control unit. The repair involved replacing the control unit completely, cost me 1000€ total including diagnostic work. The fix took about 4 hours at the workshop, but completely resolved the warning lights and restored proper function to all safety systems. To help more specifically with your Golf: Which error codes exactly are you getting? Different control unit issues can trigger various codes, and knowing the specific ones would help identify if your problem matches what I experienced. Also, did you notice any specific event (like hitting a bump or water exposure) before the warning light appeared? Important: With airbag systems and vehicle safety components, always get professional diagnosis. These systems are too critical for trial-and-error fixes.

Last service was done at 98000km and showed no issues with the airbag or tilt sensors. Getting error code B1340 from the automotive sensor system now. After checking with OBD reader, it seems the vehicle rollover detection unit needs attention. The airbag sensor warning appeared after driving on a particularly bumpy road section. Workshop quoted 950€ for diagnostics and potential sensor replacement. Any experience with similar repair costs for this specific error code?

Thanks for providing those details about the B1340 error code. This matches exactly what happened with my Golf at around 95000km. The rollover sensor failure showed up after some rough road driving too, which seems to be a common trigger point for these sensor issues. The 950€ quote you got is right in line with what I paid (1000€). The bulk of my cost went to the actual sensor replacement rather than diagnostics, since crash detection systems require specialized parts and careful calibration after installation. One thing I learned during my repair: the vehicle safety system in these VW hybrids is particularly sensitive to rollover sensor positioning. The workshop explained they had to precisely calibrate the new sensor to prevent false readings, this was included in my total cost and should be part of your quoted price too. Quick tip: make sure they check the wiring harness connecting to the rollover sensor while doing the repair. In my case, they found some minor corrosion at the connector that could have caused future issues if not addressed during the sensor replacement. For reference, my repair has held up perfectly for 30000km now with no automotive sensor warnings since. The price might seem steep, but considering its role in the overall vehicle safety system, it was worth getting it properly fixed.

The B1340 error code seems fairly common with these models, and the repair quote matches what others paid. The problem started right after that bumpy road section, which lines up with your Golf experience. Good point about checking the wiring harness, will definitely ask the workshop about that during the repair. Since my vehicle safety systems are showing the same symptoms, and the airbag sensor warning appeared in a similar way, I think I will proceed with the 950€ repair. The automotive sensor system is too important to risk any malfunctions. Thanks for confirming the rollover sensor calibration is typically included in the total cost. Will book the repair next week and make sure they do a full inspection of the connecting components while they have it apart.
