VW Golf Hybrid Misfires, Reliable Mechanic Needed

My car has been acting up lately with rough running and jerking during acceleration, plus the check engine light just came on. Power feels way down too. Pretty sure its cylinder misfires, but after a bad experience with my last mechanic, Im hesitant about where to take it. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms in their hybrid? Looking for recommendations on reliable shops that know how to properly diagnose and fix combustion misfire issues. Car details: 2014 VW Golf Hybrid 134153

I experienced nearly identical symptoms with my 2011 VW Passat Hybrid. The rough idle and cylinder misfire started gradually, but the throttle response got notably worse over a few weeks. The main culprit turned out to be a defective fuel injector in cylinder 2. These symptoms are quite typical for injector failures, rough running, jerking during acceleration, and reduced power output. The diagnostic showed the fuel injector was not delivering the correct spray pattern, leading to incomplete combustion. The repair required replacing the faulty injector and cleaning the remaining ones. This was definitely a serious issue that needed immediate attention, as running with a bad injector can damage the catalytic converter and cause additional engine problems. The fuel system in VW hybrids needs extra attention since it handles both traditional combustion and electric power management. A qualified shop should perform a complete fuel system diagnosis including fuel pressure testing and injector spray pattern analysis before replacing parts. Getting it fixed promptly prevented more extensive engine damage. The car has run smoothly since, with normal throttle response and no more warning lights or misfires.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I had the exact same symptoms on my Golf, rough running, check engine light, and those annoying jerks during acceleration. The throttle response was terrible too. In my case, it turned out to be a failed ignition coil and worn spark plug causing the cylinder misfire. Once replaced, the engine ran smooth again. Really similar to your injector situation, these issues can definitely snowball if left unchecked. Would you mind sharing what the total repair cost was in your case? Also curious if youve had any other issues pop up since the injector replacement? My car has been running great for 6 months now, but always good to know what to watch out for.

Happy to update you on the costs and status. The full repair including parts and labor came to 515€ for the faulty injector replacement. The technician thoroughly tested all fuel system components to ensure optimal fuel delivery. Its been running flawlessly since the repair with no combustion misfires detected by the diagnostic system. The rough idle completely disappeared and acceleration is smooth again. The fuel economy has actually improved slightly now that the injection system is working correctly. No other engine issues have surfaced in the months following the repair. Having a proper diagnosis and fix for the injector was crucial, running with faulty fuel delivery could have led to more serious engine damage if left unchecked. The repair shop did a great job making sure the fuel pump and entire injection system were functioning properly. Glad to hear your ignition coil issue was resolved and the car is performing well. These VW engines are generally quite reliable once the root cause of any misfiring is properly addressed.

I really appreciate all the helpful responses. After reading about your experiences, I finally took my Golf to a reputable VW specialist. The combustion misfire diagnosis matched what you described, my car needed both a new ignition coil and spark plug replacement. The total repair came to 320€, which included a full diagnostic scan. The mechanic was thorough and showed me the worn components. The throttle response improved immediately after the fix, and the engine runs perfectly smooth now with no more jerking or rough idle. Its been 2 weeks since the repair, and the check engine light hasnt returned. The fuel economy is noticeably better too. Really glad I didnt wait longer, the mechanic mentioned that continuing to drive with misfires could have damaged other engine components. This whole experience taught me not to hesitate when these symptoms appear. Getting a proper diagnosis from a qualified shop made all the difference.
