VW Golf Oil Sensor Malfunction Triggers Multiple Alerts

My 2023 VW Golf diesel is showing multiple warnings and error messages, most notably the oil pressure warning light. The oil monitoring system seems to be acting up, displaying errors in both the speedometer and error memory. I suspect the oil sensor might be faulty, but want to confirm before taking action. Has anyone dealt with similar oil detection issues in their Golf? Would appreciate hearing about repair experiences and what the actual problem turned out to be. Already changed the oil recently and levels are fine according to the dipstick, so looking for insights beyond the basic maintenance steps.

I had a very similar issue with my 2021 VW Passat diesel last summer. As someone with moderate experience in car maintenance, I first checked all the automotive oil basics, just like you did with the dipstick check. The oil gauge and warning lights kept appearing intermittently, even though the oil level was perfect. After some basic troubleshooting, I took it to a workshop where they diagnosed a faulty connection in the oil sensor wiring harness. The oil signal was inconsistent due to a damaged cable connection to the sensor. The repair cost was 95€, which covered diagnostic time and fixing the cable connection. Since then, the oil monitoring system has worked flawlessly with no false warnings. To help diagnose your situation more accurately, could you share: Have you noticed any pattern when the warnings appear? (cold start, after driving), Are there any other electrical issues present? When was your last car maintenance service? Does the warning disappear and reappear, or stay constant? The similarity between our vehicles oil sensor systems suggests this could be a common issue, but knowing these details would help confirm if your problem matches what I experienced.

Last service was completed at 127000km and everything was perfect until now. The warnings appear mostly during cold starts and occasionally while driving on the highway. No other electrical issues present. The oil pressure warning is intermittent, it comes on for about 2-3 minutes then disappears, only to return later. The oil monitoring system warnings match exactly what you described, inconsistent readings despite correct oil levels. Just did another dipstick check yesterday to be absolutely certain. I will check the wiring connections first since the symptoms align closely with your experience. The service manual shows the oil sensor location, so I can inspect the wiring harness for any obvious damage before booking a workshop appointment.

Thanks for providing those additional details. The symptoms you describe with the oil pressure warning are nearly identical to what I experienced, especially the cold start warnings and intermittent nature. In my case, after inspecting the oil sensor wiring, I found slight corrosion at the connector pins. The workshop confirmed this was disrupting the oil signal transmission, causing those unusual warnings despite proper engine oil levels. Since your warning pattern matches (2-3 minute intervals, cold starts, highway occurrence), I strongly suspect the same oil sensor connection issue. The fact that it started after your last service could indicate the wiring was accidentally disturbed during maintenance. When checking the harness, pay special attention to: Connector pins for corrosion or debris, Wire insulation for any breaks or wear, Mounting points where cables might rub against engine parts If you spot anything suspicious, take photos before attempting repairs. While my fix was relatively simple at 95€, costs can vary if the entire sensor needs replacement rather than just the wiring repair. From personal experience, I would avoid driving long distances until resolved, as faulty oil sensor readings could mask actual oil pressure problems.

Thanks for all the information shared. Those intermittent warnings during cold starts definitely point toward a sensor wiring issue rather than an actual oil pressure problem. After carefully examining the wiring harness near the oil sensor, I found some wear on the cables exactly where you mentioned they might rub against engine components. Will book a workshop appointment for next week to get this sorted. The 95€ repair cost seems reasonable if it fixes these nerve-wracking oil pressure warnings. Really glad I checked this before replacing the entire oil sensor unit or doing unnecessary oil changes. For now, I will stick to shorter trips until the repair is done, following your advice about potential masked oil pressure issues. The fact that the oil monitoring system shows the same behavior you experienced gives me confidence this is just a wiring problem rather than something more serious with the engine. Thanks again for helping pinpoint the likely cause. Will update once the repair is completed in case other Golf owners run into similar oil detection system warnings.
