VW Jetta Hybrid Power Loss & Check Engine Light Issues

Recently my engine feels sluggish and lacks power, plus the check engine light keeps coming on. I suspect the throttle sensor might be acting up. Im driving a 2016 VW Jetta Hybrid with 31990km on the clock. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Looking to get insights on repair costs and trusted fixes before heading to a mechanic since my last repair experience wasnt great. Any suggestions would be really helpful, especially from other Jetta hybrid owners who had throttle-related issues.

As a 2019 VW Passat GTE Hybrid owner, I faced nearly identical symptoms. The sluggish response and check engine light were clear indicators of a faulty accelerator pedal position sensor, which was causing response delay and putting the car into limp mode periodically. The repair involved replacing the complete accelerator pedal module since the electronics inside were defective. The symptoms started gradually, first with minor hesitation during acceleration, then progressed to significant power loss and eventual complete failure of proper throttle response. This is considered a serious issue as it affects both the hybrid system operation and overall fuel efficiency. The throttle position sensor communicates with multiple engine management systems, including the air intake and fuel delivery controls. When it fails, the entire powertrain performance becomes compromised. The fix requires specialized diagnostic equipment to properly calibrate the new pedal module with the engine control unit. It is not a DIY-friendly repair due to the complexity of hybrid system integration and the need for proper electronic initialization. Worth noting that ignoring these symptoms can lead to further complications with the hybrid drive system. Getting it diagnosed early helps prevent additional damage to related components.

Thanks for that detailed reply about the throttle sensor issue. Your description matches what Im experiencing, especially the gradual progression from minor hesitation to more serious power problems. Since getting it fixed, have you noticed any other issues with the throttle body or engine performance? Also, would you remember roughly how much the repair cost? Just trying to budget properly before heading to the shop. The limp mode kicks in about twice a week now, so I definitely need to get this sorted soon. Your experience with the pedal module replacement is really helpful to know.

Since having the throttle valve replaced and the accelerator pedal module fixed, my cars performance has returned to normal with no further issues. The air flow and engine response are now perfect, just like when the car was new. The total repair came to 265€ for the complete fix, which included the diagnostic work and recalibration of the new pedal module. It was worth every cent to eliminate those frustrating check engine warnings and get rid of the limp mode incidents. Getting it fixed early was definitely the right call. The car now accelerates smoothly without any hesitation or power loss. The initial symptoms you describe are exactly what I experienced, and waiting longer could have led to more expensive repairs down the line. The specialized diagnostic equipment they used helped identify the exact issue with the electronics inside the pedal module. This prevented any trial-and-error parts replacement that some shops might attempt.

After reading everyones input, I went ahead and got my Jetta fixed last week. The mechanic confirmed it was indeed the throttle sensor causing the problems. They had to replace the entire pedal module and recalibrate the system. The repair cost came to 290€, which included the diagnostic work and parts. The whole job took about 3 hours. The mechanic also checked the air intake system while they were at it, just to be thorough. The difference in performance is like night and day. No more check engine lights, no more limp mode, and the throttle response is crisp again. Fuel efficiency has also improved noticeably since the fix. Really glad I didnt wait any longer as the mechanic mentioned the issue could have affected other components if left unchecked. The car runs perfectly now, just like when I first got it.
