VW Nivus Power Windows Fail: Warranty Fix Guide

Looking for advice on my 2021 VW Nivus power windows issue. All windows stopped working completely and the car shows an error code. I suspect the window regulator motor might be failing, but want to confirm before heading to a workshop. Has anyone dealt with a similar complete power window failure on their Nivus? Particularly interested in repair experiences and costs involved. The car is still under warranty but Id like to know what to expect when taking it in for repairs.

Similar issue occurred on my 2019 VW T-Cross last winter. Being somewhat familiar with car electrics, I first checked the fuses but found them intact. The window mechanism on all doors had completely stopped responding, just like your case. The workshop diagnosed a faulty main power window switch in the driver door panel. They had to remove the entire door panel to access and replace the switch unit. The repair took about 2 hours and cost 200€ including parts and labor. The window regulator motor and window track were tested and found to be working fine, it was purely the switch causing the system-wide failure. Before suggesting specific fixes, could you share: Are you hearing any clicking sounds when pressing the switches? Does this happen with both front and rear windows? Have you noticed any intermittent operation before complete failure? Did the issue start suddenly or gradually? This kind of system-wide failure often points to the main switch unit rather than individual window motors, but knowing these details would help narrow down the exact cause. Since your Nivus is under warranty, definitely have the dealer check it, they should cover the repair if its a component failure.

Had my last service at 49000km just two weeks ago and everything checked out fine. Started hearing a faint clicking sound from the driver side door before the complete failure. All windows, front and rear, stopped working simultaneously yesterday with no warning signals before that. The sound happens every time I press any window switch now, but there is zero window movement. Not even a humming noise from the window motors. Was wondering if others experienced the same sudden complete failure or if its normal for all windows to stop at once?

Based on those clicking sounds and the total system failure youre describing, this matches exactly what happened with my T-Cross. The main window control module in the drivers door typically fails in this way, first with subtle clicking, then complete system shutdown affecting all windows simultaneously. The clicking noise without any window motor sound strongly indicates its the central switch unit, not the window regulators or individual motors. When the main control module fails, it cuts power to all window motors as a safety feature. This explains why all windows stopped working at once. In my case, the repair involved: Removing the drivers door panel, Replacing the complete window control module, Resetting the window control system, Testing all window functions Since your Nivus is still under warranty, the repair should be covered. The window control module replacement fixed the issue completely on my T-Cross, and I havent experienced any problems since. The clicking sound you hear is practically identical to what I experienced before the repair. I would advise against attempting any DIY fixes since tampering could void your warranty. The dealer should be able to confirm the diagnosis with their diagnostic equipment and replace the faulty control module.

Thanks for the detailed replies. Just had the car checked at the dealership and you were spot on, it was indeed the main window control module in the driver door. They confirmed the clicking sound was coming from the faulty switch unit, not the power windows themselves. The repair was fully covered under warranty and took about 3 hours to complete. They replaced the entire window control module and recalibrated all window regulators. Total cost would have been 280€ if not under warranty. For anyone else experiencing similar issues: the simultaneous failure of all power windows with clicking sounds from the switches is a clear indicator of a central control module problem rather than individual window regulator issues. The dealership mentioned this is a known issue on some VW models and they keep the replacement parts in stock. All windows are now working perfectly with no clicking or other unusual sounds. Really glad it wasnt a more complex problem involving multiple window motors or regulators.
