VW Passat Hybrid Oil Pressure Alert & Engine Knock Fix

Thanks for sharing your experience. I had similar symptoms with my Passat last year, the oil pressure gauge was all over the place and that knocking sound was nerve-wracking. The oil pump failure diagnosis matched my case too and replacing it solved the issues. Did you track how much the full repair ended up costing? For my oil pump replacement plus labor it was around 1200€. Also curious if youve noticed any lingering issues since the fix? My engine has been running smooth with consistent oil pressure readings, but I now check for oil leakage way more frequently than before.

The oil pump replacement on my Arteon ended up being more economical at 755€ including parts and labor. Since the fix, the engine has performed flawlessly with no oil pressure issues whatsoever. The oil pressure gauge readings have remained steady and consistent across all driving conditions. Regular monitoring shows no signs of oil leakage, and the engine maintains proper oil pressure even under heavy load. The knocking sounds completely disappeared after the repair. The mechanic confirmed that catching the failing oil pump early prevented any significant bearing damage, which would have drastically increased repair costs. Its smart to keep checking for potential oil leakage, but with a properly functioning oil pump, the system should maintain stable pressure. Just ensure to stick with scheduled oil changes using manufacturer-specified oil grade to protect the new pump.

Thanks everyone for the helpful replies. Taking your advice, I finally got my Passat properly diagnosed and fixed last week. The shop confirmed the oil pump failure, exactly what you all suggested. Total bill came to 890€ including parts and labor, which felt reasonable considering the potential alternative of complete engine failure. The repair process took about 6 hours. They found some minor bearing wear but caught it early enough to prevent serious damage. Since the fix, the low oil pressure warning has disappeared completely and those scary knocking sounds are gone. The engine runs smoother than before, and the oil pressure gauge shows consistent readings across all speeds. Like others mentioned, I now religiously check for oil leakage and monitor oil viscosity levels. Makes me realize how critical proper oil pressure is for engine health. Really glad I addressed this before it turned into a major engine rebuild situation.

Had the exact same issue on my 2019 VW Arteon Hybrid. The oil pressure warning light combined with engine knocking is a serious red flag that requires immediate attention. The root cause in my case was a failing oil pump, which was starving the engine of proper lubrication. An oil pressure sensor test confirmed critically low readings. When the mechanic investigated further, metal particles were found in the oil, indicating the start of bearing wear. The oil pump failure required a complete pump assembly replacement. This is not a quick fix, the engine needed partial disassembly to access and replace the damaged components. The repair prevented catastrophic engine failure, which would have been inevitable if left unaddressed. Key warning signs to watch for: Fluctuating oil pressure gauge readings, Persistent knocking, especially at idle, Oil pressure warning light cycling on/off, Engine running rougher than normal Strongly recommend stopping driving until diagnosed. Continuing to run the engine with low oil pressure will cause severe damage. Have it towed to a qualified shop that can properly test the oil pressure sensor readings and inspect the oil pump system. This is considered a major repair that impacts engine longevity. Regular oil changes with correct oil grade and keeping the oil filter clean help prevent premature oil pump failures.
