VW Passat Oil Pressure Warning Signals Sensor Issues

Recently my VW Passat hybrid has been acting up with warning lights and error codes. The oil pressure warning keeps coming on, and I suspect the engine temperature sensor or oil sensor might be failing. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms on their Passat? Really hoping to avoid another bad mechanic experience. Car details: 2021 model, 125636km on the clock. Any tips on diagnosis or reliable repair options would be great.

Recently fixed a similar issue on my 2018 VW Arteon Hybrid. The oil gauge warnings and engine temperature fluctuations turned out to be a faulty oil sensor connection, not the sensor itself. The symptoms match exactly, intermittent warning lights and inconsistent oil pressure readings. After running diagnostics, we found the wiring harness connecting to the oil temperature sensor had partially corroded, causing false readings. The connector pins also showed signs of wear. The fix involved replacing the entire wiring harness assembly and cleaning the sensor connection points. This is actually a common issue on VW hybrids as the sensor wiring sits close to heat-generating components. While not immediately dangerous, ignoring these automotive sensor warnings could lead to improper engine monitoring. Recommend getting the oil pressure verified with manual testing first. If pressure tests normal but warnings persist, focus diagnostic efforts on the electrical connections and wiring to the sensor array. Testing should include checking connector integrity and scanning for communication errors between the oil sensor and engine control module. This is a moderate repair that requires proper diagnostic equipment to pinpoint the exact failure point in the sensor circuit.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the Arteon. Really glad to know this might be wiring related and not a complete oil sensor failure on my Passat. Looking at the similar engine temperature and oil gauge warnings, it seems our issues match perfectly. Just curious, do you remember roughly what the repair cost came out to? Also, have you experienced any other sensor-related issues since getting it fixed? The engine temperature readings on mine are still a bit erratic, wondering if I should get that checked while they look at the oil pressure warnings.

Had the work done last week and the mechanic confirmed what I suspected, it was indeed a faulty engine oil temperature sensor connection causing those erratic readings. The fix was straightforward once they located the exact issue. The complete repair cost was 95€, which covered fixing the cable and plug connection to the component. Since sorting out the temperature sensor problem, all readings have stabilized. Both the oil gauge and engine temperature displays are now showing consistent values. The warning lights have completely disappeared and car diagnostics are running clean. If your engine temperature readings are still jumping around, definitely get those checked while they inspect the oil pressure system. These sensor issues often relate to each other in the engine monitoring network. Better to have everything tested while the diagnostic equipment is hooked up rather than making multiple visits. My car has been running perfectly for the past week with no sensor-related problems whatsoever. The engine temperature stays steady and all gauges show normal readings during operation.

I wanted to update everyone on how this situation got resolved. Finally took my Passat to the shop last Thursday, and the whole experience was actually pretty smooth this time. The mechanic ran a full car diagnostic scan and found exactly what others here suggested, it was mainly a wiring issue affecting multiple temperature sensor connections. They found corroded wiring near the oil pressure sensor and some worn connector pins, just like described. Total repair came to 120€, which covered replacing the damaged wiring harness and cleaning all sensor connection points. The mechanic also did a preventive check of the engine temperature sensor while they were at it. Been driving for about 4 days now and everything seems back to normal. No more warning lights, stable oil pressure readings, and the engine temperature gauge is finally showing consistent numbers. Really glad I checked here first, saved me from potentially replacing sensors that weren't actually faulty.
