VW Phaeton Diesel Injector Symptoms Need Urgent Fix

Can someone help with diesel injection troubles? My 2009 VW Phaeton seems quite sick lately. Power is way down and fuel consumption has gone through the roof. Engine keeps stalling at idle and spits out smoke under acceleration. Already had a bad experience with my last mechanic visit, so looking for some advice before going to a different one. Running at 74432km right now. Has anyone dealt with similar injection system problems on these engines and can recommend what to look out for when getting it fixed?

Had a similar problem on my 2012 VW Touareg TDI. The symptoms match what I experienced, reduced power output, high fuel consumption, and sporadic diesel engine stalling. The main issue turned out to be faulty wiring connections to the fuel injectors, combined with a failing fuel pressure sensor. The engine control unit was getting incorrect readings, causing the injection timing to be off. This created a chain reaction of performance issues and excessive fuel consumption. The repair involved: Testing each injector connection point, Replacing corroded wiring harness sections, Installing a new fuel pressure sensor, Recalibrating the injection timing, Full computer diagnostic reset This was a serious repair job requiring specialized diagnostic equipment. A proper fix needs methodical troubleshooting since injection problems can stem from multiple points of failure. The wiring issues were causing similar symptoms to bad injectors, but cost much less to fix. Would strongly suggest finding a shop that specializes in VW diesel engines, as the injection system is quite complex on these models. Have them check the wiring and sensors before replacing any major components.

Thanks for detailing your experience with the injection system troubles. This is really helpful since I was worried it might be the injectors themselves which would be a massive repair bill. Did you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the wiring and sensor maintenance work? My regular diesel engine maintenance usually stays under 500€ but this sounds more involved. Also curious if youve had any other injection related problems since getting it fixed? Trying to understand if this is likely a one-off repair or if I should expect more issues down the line with the fuel system.

Update on my Touareg injection system troubles, the repair turned out well and was much cheaper than expected. The mechanic found the issue was just a faulty cable connection in the injection system wiring, costing only 95€ to fix. The entire fuel delivery system is working perfectly now. Since fixing that connection problem, the engine performance returned to normal with no other injection-related issues. Fuel consumption is back to standard levels, and the power delivery is smooth again. Regular maintenance keeps the system running properly. While these diesel engines can develop various fuel system problems, often the solution is simpler than expected. What initially seemed like a major injection system fault turned out to be a straightforward wiring repair. Worth having a qualified technician properly diagnose before assuming the worst about injector replacement.

Just got back from the mechanic and wanted to share how it went. Like you mentioned, the issue was way simpler than expected. Turned out the fuel pressure sensor wiring had worked loose and was causing all those scary symptoms. The repair bill came to 280€ total including diagnostics and labor. Such a relief after expecting thousands for new injectors. The power is back to normal and the engine runs perfectly smooth now. No more black smoke or stalling issues. Good call on finding a diesel specialist, the new shop I went to knew exactly what to check. They ran a full system diagnostic before touching anything and found the problem in under an hour. The air and fuel delivery is working great now. Really glad I asked here first instead of rushing into expensive repairs. Will definitely keep up with regular maintenance to prevent any future injection system problems. Thanks again for steering me in the right direction with the wiring check suggestion.
