VW Scirocco AC Dead: From Working Fine to Total Failure

My AC stopped working completely, not even the blower kicks in when pressing the AC button. The system worked fine until last week but now nothing happens at all. Could be anything from a failed AC relay to blower motor issues. This concerns my 2017 VW Scirocco 2.0 TSI with 119146km on the clock. Had some disappointing experiences with mechanics lately, so looking for tips on what to check first and what repair costs to expect. Anyone dealt with similar AC problems on their Scirocco?

Had a similar situation with a 2014 VW Golf GTI. After thorough AC diagnostics, the root cause was a faulty pressure switch that prevented the entire system from activating, including the blower motor. The pressure switch serves as a safety feature, shutting down the system if refrigerant pressure is too low or too high. A refrigerant leak can trigger this, but in my case the switch itself was defective. The system showed no signs of leakage when tested. The repair process involved: Testing the blower motor functionality, Checking refrigerant levels, Inspecting electrical connections, Replacing the faulty pressure switch, Recalibrating the temperature control unit This was a serious issue requiring specialized equipment for proper diagnosis. Without the pressure switch working correctly, the AC system remains completely disabled as a protective measure. The repair needs to be done by a qualified technician with proper diagnostic tools and refrigerant handling certification. Worth checking fuses first, they are the simplest potential fix. But given the symptoms match my experience exactly, having the pressure switch tested would be a logical next step.

Thanks for sharing your experience. This info about the pressure switch is really helpful since my Scirocco has similar symptoms. Good to know it might not be the blower motor, which would be much more expensive to replace. Did you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the full repair? Also curious if your AC efficiency stayed consistent since the fix or if you noticed any AC noise or other cooling system issues popping up afterward? Looking to get an idea of costs before heading to the shop for AC maintenance. Currently weighing my options between the dealer and independent specialists.

After getting the car checked by a certified technician, it turned out there were multiple defective valves in the AC system causing the pressure issues. The total repair came to 1000€, which included a complete system diagnosis, parts replacement and recharging the refrigerant. The AC efficiency has been perfect since the repair, no strange AC noise or cooling problems at all. The fix addressed all the issues completely. The system now maintains consistent cooling and the pressure switch operates exactly as it should. It was worth investing in proper AC maintenance rather than trying quick fixes. Based on how smoothly everything worked out, I would definitely recommend having a professional diagnose the exact issue. While the symptoms might seem similar, faulty valves can mimic pressure switch problems, which is why proper testing is crucial for AC relay and component issues.

I took your advice and went to get it checked out. Found a well-reviewed AC specialist who really knew VWs. Good call on getting proper AC diagnostics, turned out my issue was indeed the pressure switch, just like your GTI. The whole repair came to 680€, which included: Full system inspection, Pressure switch replacement, Refrigerant top-up, Testing the AC relay and blower motor The cooling system is working perfectly now, way better than I expected. The AC efficiency is actually improved compared to before it failed. No weird noises or issues since the fix. Really glad I asked here first instead of going straight to the dealer. Saved quite a bit and got quality work done. The specialist even showed me the old switch and explained exactly what had failed. Much better experience than my previous repair attempts.
