VW Scirocco Cold Start Woes: Injector Fix Needed

My VW Scirocco 2009 diesel with 141243km struggles badly during cold starts. Engine runs rough for the first few minutes and hard starting is becoming a regular issue. Mechanic mentioned potential issues with the cold start injector but quoted a hefty repair cost. Anyone dealt with similar fuel injection problems and can share their repair experience? Looking for advice on whether I should get a second opinion or if this is a common issue that needs immediate attention.

Had the exact same symptoms with my VW Golf 2012 2.0 TDI. The rough idle during cold starts became progressively worse, especially after the fuel delivery system started showing intermittent problems. The injector cleaning attempt did not resolve the hard starting issues. After proper diagnostics, two fuel injectors were found defective, causing uneven fuel distribution and cold start problems. The repair involved replacing all four injectors since mixing old and new units often leads to performance inconsistencies. This is definitely a serious issue requiring immediate attention. Faulty injectors can lead to: Increased fuel consumption, Engine misfires, Potential damage to other engine components, Failed emissions tests, Further deterioration of starting performance The repair took two full days at the shop. The job included removing the fuel rail, replacing all injectors, and programming them to the engine control unit. Postponing the repair typically leads to more extensive damage and higher repair costs down the line. Getting a second opinion is always wise, but these symptoms strongly indicate injector problems, which is a known issue in these engines.

Thanks for sharing your experience. My Scirocco had similar symptoms with hard starting and engine misfires last winter. After testing the fuel rail pressure and injector behavior, the mechanic found 3 problematic injectors. Getting them all replaced solved the issue completely. Did the repair stay reliable afterwards? Just curious about the total cost you ended up paying since these fuel injection repairs can vary quite a bit in price. My local shop has different suppliers and pricing options.

After getting the faulty cold start injector fixed last month, my Golf has been running perfectly. The engine misfire symptoms disappeared completely and cold starts are now smooth. The injector test showed it was definitely the right call to repair it promptly. The total repair cost came to 515€ for diagnosing and replacing the defective injection valve. While this might seem steep, proper fuel delivery is crucial for engine longevity. The investment was worth it considering the improved performance and prevention of potential additional damage. The repair has proven completely reliable, no more rough running or starting issues since then. The fuel injection system now works exactly as it should. When dealing with these common diesel injector problems, using quality parts and getting proper diagnostic testing is key to a lasting fix. It makes sense to compare prices between reputable shops, but I would prioritize their experience with VW fuel injection systems over cost alone. A properly done repair prevents having to revisit the issue later.

I took my Scirocco to the dealer after getting your advice, and I am really glad I did not wait any longer. The fuel system diagnosis confirmed bad injectors were causing the cold start problems. The mechanic found metal debris in the fuel rail, likely from the degrading injectors. Had I kept driving it, this could have caused much bigger issues. They replaced all four injectors and did a complete fuel system cleaning for 1850€. Been two weeks now, the engine starts instantly even in cold weather and runs perfectly smooth. No more rough idle or engine misfires. While the repair cost was significant, the peace of mind knowing the fuel delivery system is working properly again was worth it. Really appreciate the advice to address it quickly before it led to more expensive repairs. The shop confirmed waiting longer could have resulted in complete injector failure and potential engine damage.
