VW Scirocco TDI Power Loss & Hissing: Manifold Troubles

My Scirocco is acting weird lately with power drops and hissing noises during acceleration. The engine light keeps coming on and fuel consumption has gone up quite a bit. Also noticing rough running and jerky acceleration. Pretty sure its related to the intake manifold or flap control issue. Previous mechanic visits left me unsure about their diagnosis. Running a 2010 Scirocco TDI with 96500km. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Really want to know what repairs were needed and if you had good experience with getting it fixed. Want to make sure I get it right this time.

Last month my 2013 Golf TDI showed nearly identical symptoms. The engine misfire and power loss were quite noticeable, especially during acceleration. After inspection, the garage found the intake manifold flap control was indeed malfunctioning, causing improper air-fuel mixture. The repair involved replacing the complete intake manifold assembly because the flap control mechanism had seized. The manifold flaps were not responding to ECU commands, leading to incorrect air intake distribution. This explained the hissing sounds and irregular engine performance. This is a serious issue that needs prompt attention since it affects engine performance and can lead to increased engine wear if left unrepaired. The repair took about 4 hours at the shop. They also cleaned the EGR valve during the service, as these issues often appear together. Since the fix, the engine runs smoothly again with normal fuel consumption. The engine light has stayed off and the power delivery is back to normal. Would strongly recommend getting it checked by a workshop that specializes in VAG engines, as proper diagnosis of flap control issues requires specific diagnostic equipment.

Thanks for sharing your Golf experience, sounds exactly like what I am dealing with. My Scirocco symptoms match perfectly, especially the engine misfire and air intake issues you described. Really helpful to know about the complete manifold replacement being needed rather than just trying to fix the flap control unit. Can you remember what the total repair cost was? Also curious if youve had any recurring issues since the repair or if its been running perfectly fine. I want to budget properly for this and make sure I get it done right the first time.

After getting the manifold flap control issue fixed last month, everything has been running perfectly. The repair shop charged 465€ for replacing the faulty intake manifold control switch, which resolved all the airflow control problems completely. The engine now performs exactly as it should, no more reduced power issues, no engine misfire, and fuel consumption is back to normal levels. The investment was definitely worth it since proper airflow management is crucial for engine performance. The repair has proven reliable with no recurring issues at all. The hissing noise disappeared completely and acceleration is smooth again. Going to a specialized workshop made a big difference, as they quickly identified the exact problem with their diagnostic equipment rather than just guessing at the cause. For anyone facing similar symptoms, getting the intake manifold system checked properly is essential. Trying to save money with partial fixes often leads to continued problems and potentially more expensive repairs later.

Thanks everyone for the help and input. Finally got mine fixed last week and wanted to share the outcome. Took it to a specialized VAG workshop where they properly diagnosed the intake manifold flap control system. Just as suggested, the manifold flaps were completely stuck, causing the airflow control issues and engine misfire. The total repair came to 520€ including diagnostics and parts. They replaced the entire manifold assembly since the flap mechanism was beyond repair. The engine performance difference is like night and day, no more hissing, power drops are gone, and fuel consumption is back to normal. Really glad I went with a proper workshop this time instead of trying cheaper alternatives. The mechanic showed me the old parts and explained how the failed flap control was affecting everything. Been a week now and the car runs perfectly, no check engine light or any other issues.
