VW Sharan Washer & Xenon Cleaner System Failure Fix

Recently my windshield washer stopped working completely. The car has Xenon headlights with an integrated cleaning system that also shows a fault message. Anyone experiencing similar issues with their 2013 VW Sharan TDI (67000km)? Would like to know if this could be related and what type of repair costs to expect. Pretty hesitant about going to a workshop after some bad experiences.

Had the same malfunction on a 2010 VW Touran TDI last winter. The system showed identical symptoms, both windshield washer and headlight cleaning stopped working simultaneously. After inspection, the main fault was traced to a clogged pump relay and corroded cable connections near the washer fluid reservoir. The cleaning system feeds both the windshield and headlight washers through shared components, which explains why both systems failed. The repair involved replacing the pump relay assembly and rewiring the damaged connections. This was a moderate repair job, not particularly complex but required proper diagnostic tools to verify the electrical system functionality. If your cable connections are similarly affected, leaving it unrepaired could lead to more serious electrical system issues over time. The washer pump might also burn out if forced to work against clogged or damaged components. A proper system diagnosis would be the first step to confirm if your issue matches these symptoms. Having the repair done at a certified workshop is important since they need to check the entire washer system for potential secondary faults.

Thanks for sharing your experience. I had nearly identical issues with my VW Sharan last year, no washer fluid coming out and error messages from the Xenon headlight cleaning system. Turned out there was a leak in one of the main fluid hoses plus some electrical problems that needed fixing. Would you mind sharing what the total repair cost was in your case? My bill came to around 280€ but curious if that was reasonable. Also wondering if youve had any other issues pop up with the washer system since getting it fixed?

Glad to help with the cost comparison. In my case, the total repair came to 165€ for fixing the faulty cable connection and pump relay. The headlight cleaning system fault cleared up completely after the repair, and the washer system has worked flawlessly since then. Your 280€ bill makes sense considering you had both electrical issues and a leaking hose to deal with. The xenon headlight cleaning system is quite sensitive to any malfunction in the washer components, so replacing the damaged hose was likely necessary to prevent future problems. Haven't experienced any washer-related issues in the past year since the repair. The key was catching the clogged relay and corroded connections before they could cause more extensive damage to the electrical system. Would definitely say getting it properly repaired was worth the investment, especially considering how critical proper headlight function is for safety. These systems tend to work reliably once the root cause is properly addressed.

Thanks for the advice. Finally got the courage to visit my local mechanic yesterday. The LED warning light on the dash helped them quickly identify the issue. The inspection revealed a major leak in the main system hose and some damaged wiring near the washer pump. The mechanic showed me how the old hose had cracked, causing fluid to drip onto the electrical connections. Total bill came to 280€, about 180€ for parts and 100€ for labor. They replaced the faulty hose, fixed the wiring, and did a full system test. Actually got to watch them diagnose the malfunction step by step, which helped rebuild my trust in repair shops. Both the windshield washer and headlight cleaning system now work perfectly. Really glad I didn't wait longer as the leak could have caused more expensive electrical problems. The whole repair took just under 2 hours and saved me from potential safety issues down the road.
