Thanks for sharing your experience with the VW immobilizer issue. Your solution definitely matches what I was seeing with my car. After reading this, I went to a specialized shop and they found similar problems with the key signal not being properly recognized. Did you experience any other electrical issues after getting the immobilizer bypass and reprogramming done? Also, would you mind sharing how much the repair ended up costing? Just want to make sure I have a good price reference since my previous mechanic wasnt very transparent about costs. The remote start feature on my key fob still acts up occasionally, even after the fix. Wondering if you had any lingering issues with the ignition control system afterwards?

After getting the immobilizer bypass and key programming sorted at the specialized shop, everything worked perfectly with no additional electrical problems. The ignition control system has been functioning flawlessly since the repair. The anti-theft light stopped blinking completely, confirming the car immobilizer was properly reset. The total cost came to 45€ for the key programming correction, which was reasonable considering the specialized equipment needed. No lingering issues occurred after the fix, the key signal is now consistently recognized by the system. Regarding your remote start concerns, that could be a separate issue from the immobilizer system. The remote function uses different circuits than the transponder chip that communicates with the car immobilizer. You might want to have the key fob battery checked or the remote system diagnosed separately. The most important thing was finding a shop with proper diagnostic tools for VW security systems. Getting the correct immobilizer programming done the first time prevents recurring issues.

Thanks for the helpful advice. I finally got this sorted out at a specialized shop that deals with car electronics and security systems. Like many suggested, it was indeed an immobilizer fault causing the problem. The repair took about 2 hours and cost 350€. They had to reprogram both keys and reset the entire anti-theft system. The technician showed me how the key signal wasnt being properly recognized, which explained why the engine kept dying. After the fix, the car starts perfectly and the anti-theft light stopped blinking. No more issues with the immobilizer or starting system. The shop even gave me a detailed report of what they did, unlike my previous mechanic. The remote start feature is working properly now too, turns out it was related to the main immobilizer problem. Really glad I went to a specialist instead of trying unusual fixes. The extra cost was worth it for getting it done right the first time. Again, thanks for pointing me in the right direction with this car immobilizer issue. Definitely learned my lesson about using specialized shops for security system repairs.

Had a similar issue with my VW Golf GTI 2010. The symptoms you describe match exactly what happened, engine cranking briefly before dying, plus the blinking anti-theft light. The key signal was not being recognized by the immobilizer system. The root cause was incorrect key programming after some electrical work. The car immobilizer thought the key was unauthorized, triggering the anti-theft system as a safety measure. This required professional diagnostic equipment to fix the communication between the key transponder and the immobilizer control module. The repair involved: Full system diagnostic scan, Immobilizer bypass procedure to access the system, Reprogramming of both keys to sync with the vehicle, Testing the anti-theft system functionality This was definitely a serious issue requiring specialized equipment and expertise. Regular mechanics often lack the proper diagnostic tools for immobilizer programming. Would strongly recommend having this done at a shop that specializes in VW electrical systems and security features. The blinking anti-theft light is a clear indicator that the immobilizer is preventing the engine from running. This is a security feature working as designed, just triggered incorrectly due to the programming issue.
