VW Suran Seat Heater Repair Guide & Common Fixes

Looking for guidance on troubleshooting a non-working seat heating system in my 2018 VW Suran Spacefox. The heating element doesnt warm up at all and the system shows an error code. Initial diagnosis suggests a faulty seat heater, but Id like to confirm before replacing parts. Has anyone dealt with similar heating repair issues on this model? What was the actual fault and repair cost in your case? Trying to understand if this typically requires just a thermal sensor replacement or if the entire heating element needs changing. Any input on repair times and common fixes would be greatly appreciated.

Having dealt with a similar seat warmer issue on my 2016 VW Golf Sportsvan, I can share some relevant experience. As someone with moderate automotive repair knowledge, I can confirm that heating element failures are fairly common in these models. The symptoms you describe match exactly what happened with my car, complete failure of the seat heating system with error codes. My initial hope was just a loose connection, but the workshop diagnosed a defective heating mat in the seat cushion. The repair involved replacing the entire seat heating element since individual components cannot be replaced separately. Total cost in my case was 390€, including labor and parts. The job took about 3 hours since they needed to remove the seat cover and carefully install the new heating mat. Before proceeding with repairs, could you share: Which seat is affected (driver or passenger)? Does the indicator light on the switch come on? Have you checked if the fuse is working? Any water damage history to the seats? This information would help determine if your issue is identical to what I experienced or if it might be something simpler to fix. The heating repair process is quite standardized for these VW models, but its worth confirming these details to avoid unnecessary parts replacement.

Just had mine fixed last month at the 78602km service. The thermal sensor was indeed the culprit, not the full heating element. Much cheaper fix at 120€ total including labor. The temperature control unit started working perfectly after the sensor swap. Common issue with these seat heaters, the service tech mentioned they see similar failures in multiple Suran models around 70-80k km. Diagnosis was quick, repair took under an hour. Worth checking the basic fuse first though, as that is the cheapest potential fix.

Thanks for sharing your repair experience. Interesting that it turned out to be just the thermal sensor in your case. When I had my Golf Sportsvan fixed, I unfortunately had the more expensive full heating element replacement, so its good to know theres potentially a cheaper fix option. A faulty thermal sensor makes sense given the common failure point at that mileage. My heater failure happened at 85000km, which fits the pattern the tech mentioned. Wish I had known to check for sensor issues first, might have saved some money on the repair. Temperature control issues seem to vary quite a bit in these VW seat heaters. Your 120€ sensor repair is much more appealing than the 390€ I paid for the full heating element replacement. Will definitely request a thorough sensor check if I encounter heating problems with my other seat in the future.

Just wanted to circle back and thank everyone for the helpful input. My seat heating repair ended up being simpler than expected, just needed that thermal sensor replacement at 120€. Saved a lot compared to a full heating element swap. For anyone searching the forum later with similar seat heater issues: the service tech confirmed this is a common failure point for the seat warmer system around 70-80k km. The diagnosis and automotive repair work was straightforward, under an hour total. Key takeaway from this thread: always start with checking the fuse, then have them test the thermal sensor before jumping to replace the entire heating element. Could save you several hundred Euro on the heating repair costs. Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences, helped me avoid an unnecessary full component replacement and got my seat heating working perfectly again for a reasonable price.
