Thanks for sharing that detailed experience. I have just fixed the same issue on my Spacefox last month and can confirm the EVAP system was causing the stalling. How much did you end up paying for the complete repair? My shop charged 450€ including parts and labor, which seemed reasonable given the work involved. Also wondering if youve had any engine light issues since the repair was done? Mine has been running smoothly but always good to know what to watch out for with these EVAP system repairs.

Since the repair was completed, my VW has been running perfectly with no engine light issues. The total cost came to 175€, which covered cleaning out all the clogged hoses in the emission system. The tank ventilation valve malfunction was resolved during the same service. The lower price in my case was because only the hoses needed attention, no parts replacement was needed for the purge valve or other components. When the fuel tank pressure normalized after cleaning the blockages, all the sensor readings returned to normal. Based on my experience over the past months, once these EVAP system issues are properly fixed, they tend to stay fixed. The key is making sure all the ventilation pathways are completely clear during the repair. Regular maintenance should prevent any recurrence of the stalling problems we both experienced.

Thanks everyone for the helpful feedback. Just wanted to provide a final update on my Spacefox situation. After getting recommendations here, I took it to a different automotive repair shop that specializes in emission system diagnostics. The mechanic found that both the purge valve and several ventilation lines needed replacement. The check engine light issue was resolved after they cleaned out the entire EVAP system and installed new parts. Total cost came to 450€, which included a complete fuel tank pressure test to verify everything was working correctly. The car has been running great for the past month, no more stalling at idle and the engine light has stayed off. The gas cap is sealing properly now and all the sensor readings are normal. Really glad I got a second opinion and found a shop that knew how to properly diagnose these EVAP system problems. Going to stick with this mechanic for future repairs since they took the time to explain everything and did quality work at a fair price. Much better experience than my previous repair attempts.

Had the same issue on my 2015 VW Tiguan. The symptoms matched exactly, check engine light and stalling at idle. The purge valve in the EVAP system was indeed the culprit, along with clogged ventilation hoses that were restricting proper fuel tank pressure. The diagnostic process revealed multiple fault codes related to the EVAP system. The pressure sensor readings were erratic, indicating a system-wide problem. After a thorough inspection, we found that debris had accumulated in the hoses over time, causing restricted flow. This was a serious issue that required immediate attention since it affected both emissions control and engine performance. The repair involved: Cleaning all EVAP system hoses, Replacing the faulty purge valve, Testing pressure sensor functionality, Performing a complete system leak test The automotive repair took about 4 hours total. Without proper repair, these symptoms typically worsen and can lead to failed emissions tests and potential fuel system damage. Recommend finding a shop that specializes in VW EVAP systems, as proper diagnosis requires specific knowledge of the pressure sensor locations and purge valve operation.
