VW Suran Stalling: Fuel System Red Flags & Solutions

Recently noticed my 2018 VW Suran Spacefox (gasoline, 82757km) acting strange. It stalls at idle and the check engine light keeps coming on. The error code was saved but the last mechanic seemed clueless. I suspect issues with the fuel mixture since I switched gas stations lately. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms? Getting worried about potential fuel system damage and would appreciate advice on finding a reliable mechanic who understands these specific problems. Should I try fuel additives before taking it back to a shop?

Had a similar issue with my 2015 VW Golf TSI. The symptoms matched exactly, stalling at idle and check engine warnings. Fuel contamination was initially suspected due to similar symptoms, but it turned out to be a faulty throttle position sensor connection. The fix required cleaning the connector pins and replacing a damaged wiring harness that connects to the throttle body. Engine knock was present because the ECU was getting incorrect air-fuel mixture readings from the bad connection. Would strongly advise against using fuel additives until proper diagnosis. Wrong fuel or fuel system issues tend to show different symptoms, usually rough acceleration or misfiring across all RPM ranges, not just idle. The repair was significant since accessing the harness required removing several components. A certified shop needed specialized diagnostic tools to properly reset the throttle position sensor after the repair. This issue is common in several VW models from that generation. Best to have it checked by a shop with VW-specific diagnostic equipment rather than trying temporary fixes that might mask the real problem.

Hey, thanks for sharing that experience with the throttle position sensor issue. That fix really solved my engine troubles. Would you mind sharing what the repair cost was? I know parts and labor vary everywhere but it would help get a rough idea. Just wondering if you have had any fuel economy changes or other issues pop up since getting it repaired? My VW has been running smoothly after fixing that harness connection, but I like to stay ahead of potential problems.

Thanks for the follow-up. After getting the throttle position sensor connection repaired, my fuel economy actually improved noticeably. The total repair came to 95€, which included fixing the cable connection and cleaning the component thoroughly. The mechanic also confirmed my initial suspicion about incorrect fuel composition playing a role. Once the wiring was fixed and the system properly reset, the combustion chamber started functioning as intended. No issues have surfaced in the months since the repair. Regular maintenance of the fuel filter is still important though. A clean fuel system combined with proper sensor readings will help prevent similar problems from developing. The engine runs much smoother now, especially at idle, and the check engine light has stayed off consistently. If your VW is running well after the fix, just stick to quality fuel and routine maintenance schedules. These throttle position sensor problems rarely return once properly addressed.

I finally got my VW fixed after dealing with those annoying stalling issues. Found a certified VW mechanic who really knew their stuff. First thing they noticed was the throttle position sensor wiring harness was damaged, causing all those idle problems. The repair took about 3 hours total. They had to remove several parts to access the harness, cleaned all the connector pins, and installed a new wiring set. The specialized diagnostic equipment they used to reset everything made a huge difference. Total cost came to 280€ but honestly worth every cent. Car runs perfect now, no more stalling, check engine light stays off, and even seems to have better fuel economy. Really glad I skipped trying fuel additives and went straight for proper diagnosis. If anyone else runs into similar issues, definitely get it checked by someone with the right diagnostic tools. These sensor problems can be tricky but once fixed properly, they stay fixed.
