VW T-Cross Fuel System Issues: Stalling and Power Loss

Looking for advice on fuel system problems in my T-Cross. Car keeps stalling at idle and running with less power than usual. Check engine light is also on. The fuel pressure regulator might be the culprit based on my research. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Running a 2021 gas model with about 90000km. Had a bad experience with my regular mechanic, so would appreciate recommendations on diagnosing and fixing this issue. Mainly concerned about getting ripped off with unnecessary repairs to the fuel rail or pressure sensor when it might be something simple.

Recently fixed similar symptoms on a 2018 VW Polo with the 1.0 TSI engine. The rough idle and power loss are common indicators of fuel delivery issues. After diagnostic testing, found the fuel pressure regulator was functioning correctly, but the fuel pump was not maintaining consistent pressure in the fuel rail. Main symptoms matched yours: Stalling at idle, Power loss under acceleration, Check engine light illuminated Root cause was debris from a deteriorating fuel filter clogging the fuel pump strainer. This restricted proper fuel flow, causing irregular pressure in the fuel rail. The fix required: Cleaning the fuel pump strainer, Replacing the fuel pump assembly, Installing a new fuel filter, Clearing fault codes The repair was significant since it involved dropping the fuel tank. However, getting proper diagnosis first saved replacing parts unnecessarily. Would suggest having a professional run fuel pressure tests before replacing the fuel regulator or sensors. Poor fuel efficiency and rough idle often point to pump issues rather than regulator problems when combined with your described symptoms. Consider having the entire fuel delivery system inspected, as these issues typically develop gradually and can damage multiple components if left unchecked.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the fuel pump replacement! Good to hear you got it sorted. Had exactly the same stalling issue with my T-Cross last winter. The rough idle was driving me crazy and fuel efficiency dropped significantly. After testing the fuel pressure regulator returned normal readings, turned out the pressure drop was indeed coming from a failing fuel pump, just like in your case. What surprised me was finding metal shavings in the old pump assembly. Was wondering about the repair cost in your case? My fuel pump replacement ended up being pricey with labor. Also, have you noticed any other issues popping up since the repair? My fuel efficiency is back to normal but sometimes I still hear a slight whine during cold starts.

Thanks for asking about the repair outcome. Since seeing the mechanic, my Polo has been running smoothly after fixing the defective fuel pressure regulator. They found the root cause was different from yours, no metal shavings in my case. The latest repair was fairly straightforward, just needed a fuel filter change and clearing the error codes, which came to 45€. Much cheaper than expected, especially compared to a full fuel pump replacement. The fuel efficiency is now back to factory specs, and the check engine light hasnt returned. No unusual sounds during cold starts either. The pressure sensor readings are stable, showing the fuel system is working as intended. Its worth noting that regular fuel filter changes can prevent these issues. Poor fuel efficiency and rough idles are often early warning signs of fuel delivery problems, so catching them early saves money in the long run.

After struggling with the stalling and power issues for weeks, I finally took my T-Cross to a new mechanic who specializes in fuel system diagnostics. The check engine light had me worried about major repairs, but wanted a proper diagnosis before replacing parts blindly. The mechanic ran pressure tests on the fuel rail and found the fuel regulator was actually fine. However, the fuel pump was failing to maintain proper pressure, causing the rough idle and power loss. After dropping the tank, they discovered significant debris buildup, apparently from using low-quality fuel. Total repair came to 780€ including: New fuel pump assembly, Fuel filter replacement, System cleaning, Labor costs The car runs perfectly now, no more stalling or power issues. Fuel efficiency is back to normal and the check engine light remains off. Learned my lesson about regular maintenance and using quality fuel. The higher repair cost was worth it to have the job done right the first time instead of replacing unusual parts.
