Thanks for sharing your experience. I also have a 2022 T-Roc with 54939km on the odometer. Your description of the serpentine belt issue matches my symptoms exactly. After reading this, I checked my belt drive system more thoroughly and noticed the same play in the tensioner mechanism. I booked an appointment at the dealership since mine is still under warranty too. They quoted 4 hours for a complete diagnosis and potential tensioner replacement. Good to know your repair solved the engine performance issues completely. Will update once I get mine fixed.

Thanks for the follow-up. My T-Cross repair turned out to be a straightforward fix, and I expect yours will be similar given the matching symptoms. The belt tensioner replacement completely resolved both the belt squeal and performance issues. Just a heads up, while my repair took 3 hours, the 4-hour quote you received is reasonable. They will likely perform a full belt drive system inspection, checking the idler pulley and other components while they have everything apart. The fact that the tensioner is showing play at 54939km suggests its not a unusual failure but possibly a known issue with this tensioner design. Make sure they document everything well since others might experience similar problems. Keep an eye on the repair invoice, my tensioner replacement included a new drive belt since the old one had been running with improper tension. The belt itself was only about 45€ of the total cost. Let us know how the dealer visit goes. Its helpful for others who might face similar belt drive system issues in the future.

Thank you everyone for the advice. Just got back from the dealership and wanted to close this thread with an update. The diagnosis confirmed what we discussed, a faulty serpentine belt tensioner assembly. They completed the repair in just under 4 hours as quoted. Like mentioned above, they replaced both the tensioner and the belt as a preventive measure since the improper tension had caused some wear. All costs were covered under warranty. The automobile maintenance technician showed me the old parts, there was obvious wear on the tensioner pulley bearings. The belt also showed signs of uneven wear from the inconsistent tension. Engine performance is now back to normal and the belt squeal during cold starts is completely gone. For anyone searching later with similar symptoms, the key signs that pointed to this issue were: Belt squeal noise, especially during cold starts, Play in the tensioner pulley, Inconsistent belt tension, Slight drop in engine performance Total repair time: 3.5 hours Parts replaced: Tensioner assembly and serpentine belt Cost: Covered under warranty (would have been 495€ otherwise)

I had a similar issue with a T-Cross about 2 years ago, so I have some experience with this type of automobile maintenance problem. The symptoms you describe match exactly what I encountered, the belt squeal and loose tensioner pulley were clear indicators of a failing belt tensioner system. The idler pulley showed similar play in my case. I took it to a workshop where they confirmed the tensioner pulley assembly needed replacement. The entire repair, including parts and labor, cost 455€. They also inspected the timing belt as a precaution, which was fortunately still in good condition. The repair significantly improved engine performance and completely eliminated the squealing noise. The whole process took about 3 hours at the workshop. However, before making specific recommendations, could you share: Build year of your T-Roc, Engine size and type, When did you first notice the noise, Have you noticed any changes in engine behavior besides the noise Since your vehicle is under warranty, I strongly suggest having the dealer check it. Belt system issues should be covered and its best to address them early to prevent potential damage to other components.
