VW T-Roc Cruise Control Failure at Low Mileage

My cruise control stopped working suddenly and stored an error in the system. Driving a 2017 VW T-Roc 1.5 TSI with only 12604km. Started happening last week and my local mechanic seems unsure about the cause. Has anyone experienced similar issues with their cruise control? Any suggestions what this could be before I spend money on another diagnosis? Looking for advice on common causes and potential fixes.

I had the same cruise control failure in my 2014 VW Golf 1.4 TSI. The main symptoms matched exactly, sudden complete stop of functionality with error code storage. The root cause turned out to be a failing pedal switch under the brake pedal. This switch communicates with the cruise control system, and when it degrades, the system deactivates as a safety measure. A second potential cause often involves the clock spring behind the steering wheel, which can break and interrupt signals from the cruise control buttons. The speed sensor can also trigger similar symptoms if it starts sending incorrect data. The repair was straightforward once properly diagnosed. In my case, the pedal switch replacement resolved the issue completely. The mechanic mentioned this is a known weak point that typically fails between 10000-15000km. Before going to a specialist, check the fuse box for any blown fuses related to the cruise control system. This is a simple first step that could save time and money. If fuses are good, having a proper diagnostic scan is essential since multiple components could trigger similar symptoms.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the VW Golf cruise control issue. Did the replacement of the brake pedal switch fully solve the problem for you? Just wondering since I have a similar problem with my T-Roc now and would love to avoid an expensive diagnosis. My dashboard light started showing the error last Thursday, and the cruise control completely stopped responding. The steering wheel buttons seem to work fine for other functions though, which makes me think it might also be the brake pedal switch in my case. Would be great if you could share what the repair cost in your case and if anything else came up since the fix.

Just following up on my previous VW Golf cruise control repair experience. After getting it fixed, everything worked flawlessly. The mechanic found a loose connection in the wiring going to the speed sensor, which had caused the system to fail intermittently at first and then completely. The total repair cost was 95€, including labor. The mechanic spotted the issue quickly since these symptoms are quite common. No cruise control problems since the repair was done. Since your steering wheel controls work for other functions, this suggests your clock spring is probably fine. Based on the symptoms you describe, checking the pedal switch and speed sensor connections would be a good starting point. My repair turned out simpler and less expensive than initially feared. Having a clear diagnostic scan helped pinpoint the exact issue without replacing unnecessary parts.

I went to the mechanic yesterday with my T-Roc based on your feedback. The throttle position sensor and brake pedal switch were both tested during diagnosis. Turns out you were right, it was indeed the brake pedal switch causing the cruise control failure. The repair was quick and straightforward. Total cost came to 120€ including parts and labor. The mechanic confirmed this is a common issue with VWs at our mileage range. They also checked the fuse box and all connections while they had it up on the lift. The cruise control now works perfectly again. No error messages on the dashboard since the repair. Really glad I asked here first, saved me from an expensive diagnostic session at the dealership. Nice to have this sorted without major expense or complicated repairs. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction with your similar experience.
