VW Taigo AC System Failure After Recent Mechanic Visit

AC suddenly stopped working on my 2021 VW Taigo (39000km). The system wont turn on at all and no cool air is coming through the vents. Had some questionable repairs done at my last mechanic visit. Has anyone experienced similar issues with their AC system? Looking for advice on what to check first before taking it back to a shop. Its a gasoline model and otherwise running fine.

Had a similar AC efficiency problem on my 2018 VW T-Roc. The system completely failed to engage, matching your symptoms. The issue turned out to be a faulty pressure switch that was preventing the AC compressor from activating. The cooling system diagnosis revealed multiple issues: Main pressure switch failure, Stuck expansion valve, Contaminated refrigerant requiring full system flush The expansion valve defect was particularly concerning as it could have led to compressor damage if left unaddressed. The repair involved replacing both the pressure switch and expansion valve, plus a complete system evacuation and recharge. This malfunction typically requires professional diagnosis since it affects multiple AC components. Given your cars mileage and the recent questionable repairs, have a certified shop check: 1. Pressure switch functionality 2. Compressor clutch engagement 3. Refrigerant pressure levels 4. Expansion valve operation The blower motor might still run even with these faults, but no cold air indicates a system-wide problem rather than a simple refrigerant leak. This type of repair requires specialized AC service equipment and expertise.

Thanks for sharing those AC diagnostics details. My Taigo had almost identical symptoms last summer with the temperature control system failing completely. After reading your post, I realize it was probably the same pressure switch issue. The repair worked perfectly and I have not had any AC problems since. Did you remember the total cost of your repairs? Also curious if you encountered any other AC related issues after getting it fixed.

Thanks for asking about the repair costs. After taking my T-Roc to the shop, the AC maintenance resolved all temperature control issues completely. The total repair came to 1000€, which covered replacing the defective valves in the air conditioning system. Since the fix, the AC has been working flawlessly with perfect cooling performance. Its been over a year now and Ive had zero refrigerant leaks or any other AC-related problems. The pressure switch and valve replacements seem to have addressed all the underlying issues. The system maintains consistent cooling and engages properly every time. The thorough AC diagnostics and repair definitely proved worth the investment, especially considering how a small valve problem could have caused much costlier compressor damage if left unchecked.

Since that unfortunate AC system failure last summer, I wanted to share how I got it fixed. After seeing those identical symptoms, I took my Taigo to a new certified VW shop. The AC maintenance took about 4 hours total and cost 850€. The temperature control issue ended up being exactly what you described, a faulty pressure switch combined with a partially blocked expansion valve. The technician showed me how the blower motor was working fine, but the AC relay wasnt engaging the compressor due to the bad switch. After a complete system flush and new components, the AC efficiency is better than ever. The shop did a great job explaining everything and even showed me the contaminated parts they removed. Really glad I switched mechanics, the cooling has worked perfectly for the past 6 months without any issues. Just wanted to close the loop on my original question and confirm the fix worked. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction with the diagnosis.
