Thanks for sharing your experience with the T-Cross battery issue. My Taigo had almost identical symptoms and your description of the diagnostic checks matches what I discovered. The starter motor was really struggling before I got it fixed. The car battery replacement and system reset solved my start-stop problems too. Just curious, do you remember roughly what the total repair cost was for your fix? Also, has the idle stop system been working reliably since the repair, or have you noticed any other issues popping up? My local shop mentioned these start-stop system problems are becoming more common as the original AGM batteries age. Would be great to hear how yours has held up over time.

The total repair came to 290€ for my T-Cross, which included fitting the new AGM battery and resetting all affected systems. Since getting it fixed six months ago, the start-stop system has worked flawlessly with no engine stalling or rough automatic restart issues. The starter motor now engages smoothly every time, and the eco mode functions exactly as it should. The car battery performance has remained consistently strong, which is crucial for these modern start-stop systems. Your mechanic is right about aging AGM batteries causing more frequent issues. These specialized batteries are designed to handle constant cycling, but they do eventually wear out from the demands of frequent start-stop operation. Regular battery health checks can help catch potential problems before they lead to complete system failure.

Thanks everyone for the helpful replies. I finally got my Taigo fixed last week and wanted to share how it went. The mechanics found the same battery and sensor issues you mentioned. They did a full system diagnosis which showed the original AGM battery had degraded faster than normal, probably due to my frequent short trips. The repair cost came to 310€ total including the new AGM battery, sensor recalibration and system reset. The idle stop feature now works perfectly again with no engine stalling. The automatic restart is much smoother too, just like when the car was new. My hybrid vehicle experience has definitely improved since the fix. The eco mode engages properly and the engine start is consistently reliable at every stop. No more warning lights or error codes. Really glad I got it sorted before the battery failed completely.

Had the same symptoms on my 2020 VW T-Cross with the 1.0 TSI engine. The start-stop system failed completely, causing similar stalling issues at traffic stops. The problem turned out to be more serious than initially expected. The diagnostic revealed two issues: Main battery was heavily discharged and no longer meeting the voltage requirements for the start-stop system, Battery monitoring sensor was sending incorrect data to the ECU The engine start problems and rough automatic restart were clear indicators of the failing battery. These symptoms typically appear when the start-stop system detects insufficient voltage to guarantee a reliable restart. The fix required: Replacement of the AGM battery (specific type compatible with start-stop systems), Recalibration of the battery monitoring system, Reset of the engine control unit Important to know: Regular batteries are not suitable for vehicles with start-stop technology. The system requires an AGM or EFB battery designed to handle frequent engine starts. After the repair, the eco mode and start-stop functionality were fully restored. The engine start became smooth again, with no more stalling issues at stops.
