Thanks for sharing your experience with the parking sensor repairs. The wiring issue you described sounds very similar to what I am dealing with on my Tiguan. The ultrasonic sensors seem to fail out of nowhere and the obstacle detection is completely unreliable now. Do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the complete fix? And has the parking assist system worked properly since the repair was done? I want to make sure I budget appropriately before taking it to a specialist shop. The part about moisture damage affecting the connections is especially helpful, makes me wonder if that could be the root cause of my issues too. Really appreciate the detailed breakdown of what was involved in the repair.

The complete repair job on my parking assist system ended up being much simpler and cheaper than expected. After taking it to a certified VW specialist, they discovered the main issue was just a loose connection in one of the ultrasonic sensor plugs, not the extensive wiring damage I initially feared. The technician found that moisture had caused minor corrosion at one of the proximity sensor connection points, but it only required cleaning and securing the plug properly. No need to replace the entire parking assist wiring harness or radar sensors. The total cost came to 95€ for diagnosing and fixing the connection. Since having this repair done, the parking assist system has worked flawlessly. All parking sensors are responding correctly, and the obstacle detection is back to being completely reliable. This really highlights how important proper diagnosis is, what seemed like a major system failure was resolved with a relatively simple fix. The key was finding a shop with the right diagnostic equipment to properly test the ultrasonic sensor connections rather than just replacing parts hoping to solve the problem.

Thanks everyone for the great advice. Just wanted to update on how my parking sensor situation turned out. Finally took my Tiguan to a certified VW shop that specializes in electrical systems. Their advanced diagnostic scan revealed that the blind spot sensors were actually fine, turns out water had seeped in through a small crack in the rear bumper and corroded several rearview camera connections. The fix was way more reasonable than I expected. They sealed the bumper crack, cleaned the corroded connections, and recalibrated the entire obstacle detection system. Total cost was 180€ including diagnostic fees. Much better than the 800€+ quotes I got from other places for replacing all the proximity sensors. Been about 2 weeks now and all parking assist features are working perfectly again. The radar sensors pick up objects consistently and the warning sounds are back to normal. Really glad I asked here first and found a proper diagnostic specialist instead of just throwing parts at the problem. Lesson learned, always get a proper diagnosis from someone with the right equipment before replacing expensive sensor components.

Had the same problem on my 2011 VW Passat TDI. The parking assist failure started with intermittent sensor glitches before completely shutting down. After checking multiple shops, the issue was traced to faulty wiring between the control module and ultrasonic sensors in the rear bumper. The root cause turned out to be moisture damage that corroded the proximity sensors connections. The repair required replacing two radar sensors and rewiring the entire parking assist harness to the control module. This was definitely a serious electrical issue that needed specialized diagnostic equipment. The original shop kept replacing individual sensors without solving the core wiring problem. When properly diagnosed, the fix involved: Complete system diagnostic scan, Testing all ultrasonic sensors individually, Replacing corroded wiring harness, Installing new waterproof connectors, Recalibrating the parking assist system This is not a quick fix as it requires removing the bumper and carefully routing new wiring. The system needs proper calibration after repair to ensure all sensors communicate correctly with the control module. Would recommend finding a shop with VW electrical system certification to properly diagnose before replacing parts.
