Thanks for the reply. The error code showing is P0234. The issue occurs regardless of weather conditions. My last service was done at 98000km where they performed regular maintenance but didnt spot any sensor issues. The fuel consumption has increased by about 15% in the past month. No other warning lights are present besides the check engine light. The temperature sensor readings continue to fluctuate wildly, sometimes showing normal values before jumping to extreme readings within minutes. I will have the wiring connections checked as you suggested. The charge sensor system in these hybrids seems quite sensitive to electrical issues. Did you need to replace any other components of the air intake system during your repair?

Thanks for the additional details. In my case with the Tiguan Hybrid, the P0234 code also pointed initially to the charge air temperature sensor, but further inspection revealed more extensive issues in the air intake system. After the initial wiring repair I mentioned, we discovered the turbo system was also affected. The erratic temperature fluctuation and airflow sensor readings were actually symptoms of a failing turbocharger wastegate. The automotive sensor system was giving false readings due to irregular pressure in the intake. The complete repair included: Replacing the wastegate actuator, Installing new charge sensor wiring, Cleaning the complete air intake system, Recalibrating all affected sensors Total cost increased to 580€ with the additional components. The higher fuel consumption you mentioned matches my experience, it was caused by the system trying to compensate for incorrect air temperature readings. Your mileage is similar to when my issues started. Given the identical error code and symptoms, I would recommend having the turbo system checked along with the sensor connections. The whistling noise in particular suggests potential wastegate issues rather than just a sensor problem. The complete fix resolved all issues: Normal engine power restored, Fuel consumption returned to standard, Temperature readings stabilized, No more unusual noises

Good information. Since the symptoms match your Tiguan experience so closely, I will have both the air intake system and turbo components inspected. The fluctuating temperature gauge readings and increased fuel consumption do suggest it could be more than just a sensor issue. I made an appointment for next week and will ask them to specifically check the wastegate actuator and charge air temperature sensor connections. The 580€ repair cost is higher than I expected, but makes sense given the complexity of the hybrid air intake system. Will update once I get the diagnosis. The fact that the temperature sensor readings are so erratic while the engine is struggling with power definitely points toward a combined sensor and mechanical issue like you experienced. Hopefully addressing both the automotive sensor system and turbo components will resolve it completely.

Having dealt with a similar issue on my 2017 VW Tiguan Hybrid, I can share my troubleshooting experience. The symptoms you describe match what I encountered, especially the whistling noise and engine power reduction related to the air temperature sensor system. After getting the error codes checked, my issue was traced to a damaged wire connection at the air intake temperature sensor. The air sensor itself was functioning, but the connection had deteriorated, causing inconsistent temperature gauge readings. The repair involved: Testing the engine sensor connections, Replacing the damaged wiring harness, Recalibrating the air temperature monitoring system Total cost was 95€ for parts and labor, which included diagnostic time. The fix completely resolved both the power issues and strange noises. To better assist with your specific case, could you share: Which error code is stored? Does the problem occur more during cold or warm weather? Have you noticed any changes in fuel consumption? Are there any other warning lights besides the check engine light? These details would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced or if it might be something different in the air intake system.
