Last service was at 42000km and now showing these issues at 45568km. The transmission control module started acting up gradually over the past month. Never had any major transmission repairs before this. The repair shop diagnosed P0700 and P0730 error codes from the car computer initially. Even after clearing the codes they came back within a day. They also found metal particles in the transmission fluid when they checked it. Good to hear replacing the module worked out in your case. Thanks for sharing the repair timeline and costs, helps give me an idea what to expect.

Thanks for the additional details. Based on the error codes and metal particles found, your case might be more complex than my Tiguan repair was. While I also had transmission control issues, my fluid was clean when checked. The metal particles in your transmission fluid suggest mechanical wear inside the gearbox, beyond just the electronic control module problems I experienced. This combination of gearbox issues and transmission control failure often indicates the mechanical damage might have stressed the control unit. If I were in your position, I would push for a complete transmission inspection before just replacing the control module. My repair was straightforward because it was purely an electronic failure. Your case with metal contamination could require additional transmission repair work. For reference, when my transmission control unit was replaced, the fluid was also changed but showed no metal content. The automotive ECU replacement alone fixed my problems. Your repair costs might be higher if internal transmission components need attention too. Have they conducted a detailed transmission pressure test? This helped identify that my issue was isolated to the control module rather than internal transmission damage.

Looking at the error codes and metal particles they found, my situation seems worse than your Tiguan repair. I expected this might just need a new control module like your case, but the contaminated fluid is really concerning. The workshop is doing a full transmission diagnosis next week. A bit worried now that I might be looking at major gearbox issues beyond just the electronic problems you had. Really hope it's not going to need a complete transmission rebuild. Will definitely ask them about doing transmission pressure testing like you mentioned. Seems smart to fully check the internal components before just swapping the control unit. Better to know the full scope of what needs fixing. Thanks for sharing your experience, even though my repair might end up being more complex, it helps to hear how the transmission diagnosis process worked in your case. Will update once I know more about what the gearbox inspection reveals.

I had a very similar electronic issue with my 2013 VW Tiguan. Based on my experience working on VAG cars, this sounds like a typical automotive ECU failure affecting the transmission control module. My symptoms matched yours exactly, rough shifting, unresponsive paddles, gearbox slipping into limp mode. After diagnostic testing, the workshop confirmed the transmission control module was defective and needed replacement. The entire repair including parts, programming and labor came to 1000€. The workshop had the car for 3 days total, one day for diagnosis, had to order the part, then 2 days for installation and programming the new control module to work with the vehicle systems. Since then, the transmission has worked flawlessly with no gearbox issues or error codes. Getting the control unit replaced was definitely the right call versus trying other fixes. To help diagnose your specific case better, could you share: Current mileage on your Touareg, Any check engine lights or specific error codes showing, Whether transmission fluid has been changed recently, If the problems started suddenly or developed gradually This information would help determine if your symptoms truly match the control module failure pattern or if there could be other transmission problems at play.
