VW Touran ABS Failure Linked to Faulty Sensor Issue

Thanks for the detailed explanation. Just had my 19994km service done last month. The issue seems very similar, the electronic stability warning suddenly appeared during normal driving. The lateral sensor readings in my diagnostic also showed inconsistent values. The steering angle appears normal though, which makes me think the problem might be isolated to the sensor unit. Worth noting the ABS warning light stays active even after a complete restart, and the brake behavior feels slightly different, especially during low-speed maneuvers. No other warning lights are showing. Any idea if the control unit replacement requires special programming? And would you recommend going straight to a dealership for this type of safety warning related repair?

Thanks for those additional details. Given my experience with the same issue on my Tiguan, your symptoms sound nearly identical to what I faced. The control unit replacement definitely requires specialized programming, this isnt a simple plug-and-play fix. The yaw rate calibration and lateral sensor integration need proper setup using manufacturer-specific diagnostic tools. The erratic ABS behavior during low-speed maneuvers you mentioned was exactly what I experienced before the repair. Based on the service history you shared, and since this impacts critical safety systems like traction control and ABS, I strongly recommend going to a certified dealership. While independent shops can perform diagnostic scans, dealer-level programming is essential for these electronic stability components. A few things to keep in mind: Request they specifically check the lateral sensor connections, Make sure they validate all stability control functions after repair, Get the full diagnostic scan report for your records, Confirm the warranty coverage on the new components The persistent ABS warning even after restart suggests this isnt a temporary glitch, which matches the pattern of a failing control unit rather than just a sensor issue.

I appreciate all those insights. Looks like I should schedule a dealership visit soon, especially since its affecting core safety systems. The persistent ABS warnings are concerning, and I dont want to risk any brake-related issues. Going to call tomorrow and specifically request they check both the control unit and lateral acceleration sensor. The programming requirements you mentioned make sense, better to have it done right with proper diagnostic equipment than try saving money at an independent shop. Based on your repair costs, Ill budget around 1000€ for the fix. Hopefully the wheel alignment wont be needed in my case either, but good to know its a possibility. Really helpful to hear from someone who went through the same issue. Will update once I get it sorted and find out exactly what was causing the traction control and stability system warnings. Thanks again for breaking down the repair process and sharing your experience. This gives me a much clearer picture of what to expect.

Had the exact same issue on my 2019 VW Tiguan diesel. As someone with some car repair experience, I can tell you this turned into quite a challenging fix. The electronic stability system and ABS warnings appeared suddenly during highway driving. Initially thought it was just a sensor issue, but the diagnostic revealed a faulty control unit affecting both the ABS and vehicle stability systems. The lateral sensor readings were completely off, making the traction control system unreliable. Took it to a certified workshop where they: Performed complete system diagnostics, Replaced the defective control unit, Recalibrated all stability sensors, Tested ABS functionality Total repair cost was 1000€, which included parts and labor. They recommended a wheel alignment check after the fix, but it wasnt necessary in my case. To better assist with your situation, could you share: Does the issue occur more during specific driving conditions? Are there any other warning lights active? Have you noticed any unusual brake behavior? When was your last wheel alignment done? This would help determine if your case matches what I experienced or if there might be other factors involved.
