Last service completed at 105000km. Thanks for the detailed feedback. Yes, manual door locks still function correctly with the physical key. The key fob LED does light up when pressed, but no response from the keyless entry system. No other electrical problems noticed and no recent work done on doors or electrics. Just to add, I noticed the central locking started acting intermittently about 2 weeks before complete failure. Sometimes it would work after multiple key fob button presses. Given your similar experience with wiring issues, I will have the door lock actuators and connections checked first before replacing any major components. Is the fuse box location the same for the Touran as the Golf? Want to check the fuses myself before booking a mechanic.

Based on my experience with the Golf, you are describing the classic symptoms of failing door lock connections. That intermittent behavior before total failure is exactly what happened with mine, definitely a red flag for wiring issues. The fuse box setup is nearly identical between our models. For the central locking system, check fuse number 23 (10A) in the interior fuse panel. Its actually a bit easier to access in the Touran compared to the Golf. Since your key fob LED still works but the car alarm and door locks dont respond, I strongly suspect its the same wiring harness issue I encountered. The connection points tend to corrode over time, especially in the driver door where the wires flex constantly. One quick test you can try: Listen closely near each door lock when pressing the key fob. If you hear a faint click from some doors but not others, that points to wiring rather than a system-wide failure of the security system. In my case, fixing those corroded connections resolved both the key fob and central locking problems without needing to replace any major components. The car alarm also started working properly again once the wiring was sorted. Do let us know what you find with the fuses. If they check out okay, a mechanic can test the voltage at specific connection points to pinpoint exactly where the signal is getting lost.

Thanks everyone for the helpful troubleshooting suggestions. I checked fuse 23 and all other related fuses, they all appear good. Did the listening test suggested and interestingly I can hear a very slight click from the passenger doors but nothing from the driver side when using the remote locking. Going to book it in with my mechanic next week to check those wiring connections, especially in the driver door since that seems to be the common failure point with these remote locking systems. The intermittent behavior followed by complete failure of the central locking matches what others experienced with wiring issues. Really hoping its just corroded connections rather than needing to replace the entire security system or keyless entry module. Will update the thread once I get the diagnosis and repair completed. The detailed explanations here gave me a much better understanding of where to start looking for the problem.

Having dealt with a similar issue on my 2009 VW Golf, I can share my experience with door locks and the central locking system. The symptoms were exactly like yours, no response from the key fob and complete failure of the central locking system. After checking the car alarm and security system, my mechanic found the root cause was a faulty wiring connection between the door lock actuator and the control module. The repair involved: Testing connections in the fuse box, Checking voltage at the door lock actuators, Replacing damaged wiring harness connectors, Resetting the security system Total cost was 95€ for parts and labor. The fix took about 2 hours and has worked perfectly since then. To provide more specific guidance, could you share: Have you checked if individual door locks work manually? Does the key fob LED light up when pressing buttons? Are there any other electrical issues? Have you recently had any work done on the doors or electrical system? This type of issue is often fixable without major component replacement, but proper diagnosis is key.
