VW Touran Engine Misfiring: Bad Coils and Injectors

My Touran is running terribly lately, shakes and jerks when I press the gas, plus the check engine light just came on. Power feels way down too. Previous mechanic visit left me skeptical, but misfires seem likely based on symptoms. Has anyone dealt with similar issues? Could it be fuel injectors or ignition coils? Running a 2019 gasoline model with 121297km. Looking for advice before choosing where to take it.

Had similar symptoms with my 2016 VW Golf TSI. The engine would misfire and hesitate during acceleration, especially when the throttle response was needed most. Initially thought it was spark plugs, but diagnostic showed cylinder misfire codes pointing to a faulty injector. The combustion misfire was quite serious, one injector was completely clogged, causing uneven fuel distribution. When fuel injectors fail, they can either stick open or closed, leading to rough running and potential engine damage if left untreated. The repair involved removing and testing all injectors, cleaning the fuel system, and replacing the faulty one. Engine misfiring issues like this need immediate attention. The symptoms you describe, jerking, shaking, power loss, match exactly what I experienced. The check engine light is likely triggered by the misfire detection system picking up the inconsistent combustion. Getting it fixed restored smooth operation and proper power delivery. Would suggest having all injectors tested since they typically wear at similar rates. This kind of issue only gets worse if ignored and can damage other engine components.

Thanks for sharing that experience, your symptoms sound identical to what I faced last summer. My VW also had rough idle and jerking, turned out multiple ignition coils were failing. The cylinder misfire was causing all sorts of problems. The fuel injectors were checked but were fine in my case. After replacing two ignition coils and doing a thorough diagnostic, the engine ran perfectly again. Mine was also showing the check engine light before the fix. Would be curious to know if you remember the total repair cost and if its been running smoothly since? My fix was around 450€ including parts and labor, which seemed reasonable given how much better the car runs now.

Thanks for asking about the follow-up. The repair has been completely successful, no more combustion misfires detected since the work was done. The total came to 515€ for replacing the defective fuel injector, which included a full diagnostic and cleaning of the fuel system. The engine now runs perfectly smooth with no jerking or hesitation. Your experience with the ignition coils shows how similar symptoms can stem from different root causes. While both issues trigger cylinder misfires, proper diagnosis is crucial since fuel injectors and ignition systems require different repair approaches. The price difference between our repairs makes sense, injector replacement tends to cost a bit more than ignition coil work. The investment was worth it though, as the car performs like new and the check engine light has stayed off. The fuel efficiency has also improved noticeably since the repair.

The diagnostic confirmed bad ignition coils causing cylinder misfires, just as suspected. Took it to a reputable import shop this time instead of the previous place. They did a proper inspection and found two failing coils causing the rough idle and power loss. Total repair came to 450€ including parts and labor, bit steep but worth it to fix the throttle response issues properly. The engine misfiring is completely gone now. Car runs smooth as new with no more jerking or hesitation during acceleration. Really glad I got a second opinion instead of continuing with the first shop that missed the problem. The combustion misfire symptoms were textbook ignition coil failure. Would definitely recommend getting a proper diagnostic done rather than guessing at repairs. Been about 6 months since the fix and everything is still running perfectly. No more check engine lights or any signs of the previous issues returning. Lesson learned about finding a shop that really knows their stuff when dealing with these kinds of problems.
