VW Touran Stalling: Fuel Regulator Failure Alert

My VW Touran 2015 (gasoline, 145379km) keeps stalling at idle and runs with reduced power. The check engine light is on and Im suspecting a faulty fuel pressure regulator. Has anyone experienced similar symptoms and knows if its really the fuel system causing this? Getting worried about being overcharged by my mechanic again and would like to know what others paid for fuel regulator repairs.

Had the same symptoms on a VW Tiguan 2012 after replacing the fuel filter. The check engine light came on and the engine would misfire at idle. A diagnostic scan revealed a fuel pressure drop below specification. The issue turned out to be more complex than just the fuel pressure regulator. The fuel rail pressure sensor was damaged during the filter change, causing incorrect readings and making the engine computer reduce power. The repair required: New fuel rail pressure sensor, Full system pressure test, Computer reset and adaptation This was a serious repair since the faulty sensor readings could have caused long-term engine damage if left unchecked. The symptoms match your case, stalling, reduced power, and check engine light are classic signs of fuel delivery problems. Worth checking both the pressure regulator and sensor before replacing parts. Sometimes debris from the old filter can clog the fuel rail or damage components. Have them test the complete fuel system pressure and sensor readings first.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Im dealing with similar symptoms now on my Touran. Good to know about checking both the pressure sensor and regulator since they affect fuel efficiency and engine performance. Before I take it to the shop, could you remember roughly what you paid for the full repair? Also wondering if youve had any other fuel system problems since getting it fixed? Want to budget properly and make sure I address everything while its being worked on.

Just got the Touran back from the shop last week actually. The fuel pressure regulator was definitely the culprit causing the engine misfire and poor performance. The mechanic confirmed it after running a complete fuel system diagnostic. The total repair was much simpler than my previous Tiguan issue. They only needed to replace the defective pressure regulator and clear the check engine light codes. Cost was just 45€ for resetting the error after the fuel filter change, way less than I expected. Fuel efficiency is back to normal and the engine runs perfectly smooth now. No more stalling or power loss issues. Since the repair, I havent experienced any other fuel system problems. The check engine light has stayed off too. If your symptoms match what I described, you might be looking at a similar straightforward fix. Just make sure they test the complete fuel system to rule out any sensor issues before replacing parts.

Finally got the Touran fixed yesterday. Took it to my local shop and explained the symptoms. The mechanic ran a diagnostic test which showed low fuel pressure readings. After checking both the pressure regulator and sensor, they found the regulator was failing. Parts and labor came to 280€ total. More than your repair but still reasonable considering they did a full system check. The fuel efficiency has improved noticeably and the check engine light is now off. No more stalling or power issues either. Really glad I asked here first. Knowing what to expect helped me avoid getting unnecessary work done. The mechanic even confirmed your point about testing the whole system before replacing parts. Thanks for helping me understand the issue better.
