VW Up frozen washer nozzles need reliable repair fix

Looking for advice on frozen washer nozzles in my VW Up. The error light keeps coming on and the spray nozzles freeze up completely when temps drop below zero. Pretty sure the washer heater is acting up. Already had one bad repair job and dont want to get ripped off again. Anyone dealt with similar windshield heater issues on their Up? Its a 2017 gasoline model with 108844km on the clock. Would really appreciate hearing about repair costs and trusted fixes.

Had the same washer heater malfunction on my 2014 VW Polo TSI. The symptoms matched exactly, frozen nozzles and constant warning lights when temperatures dropped. The issue turned out to be more serious than just frozen fluid. The heating element had completely failed due to a damaged wire harness connection near the washer motor. The corroded plug was causing intermittent power supply to the heater system. The repair required: Complete removal of front bumper cover, Replacement of the windshield washer heating element, New wiring harness connector, System diagnostic check This was not a quick fix, the entire washer system needed testing after the repair to ensure proper heating function. A specialized diagnostic tool was required to reset the error codes. Important: Make sure they check the entire circuit, not just replace the heater. Many shops miss the underlying connection issues and the problem returns within weeks. The heating element failure is a known weak point on VW models from that generation. Getting it properly diagnosed and fixed by a shop familiar with VAG systems is crucial.

Thanks for the detailed info on your Polo repair. My Up has developed the exact same clogged nozzles issue and warning light problems. Finally good to hear from someone who actually got it fixed properly. Quick follow-up: Do you remember the total repair cost for your washer motor and heating element replacement? Im trying to budget for this and wondering if any other issues popped up since the fix? The repair shop quoted me 450€ but that seems steep. Really hoping I wont have to remove the entire bumper like you did to access the fuse box area. These VW repairs can get complicated fast.

Got an update for you since my previous post about the Polo washer heater problems. After seeing a VW certified mechanic, the issue was much simpler than my initial repair. The faulty windshield washer heater turned out to be just a loose connection, no need for the extensive work I had mentioned before. The fix only cost 95€ for rewiring the plug connection to the heating element. No bumper removal or fuse box access was required. The quoted 450€ seems high if the symptoms match what I experienced. The washer system has worked flawlessly through winter driving conditions since the repair. No more frozen nozzles or warning lights, even in sub-zero temperatures. The washer fluid flows perfectly now that the heater maintains proper temperature. A proper diagnosis really made the difference, worth getting a second opinion if your shop insists on complete system replacement rather than checking connections first.

Finally got this sorted out! Took my Up to a different mechanic for a second opinion after reading about your experience. Smart move, saved me hundreds. Turned out my windshield wipers system had the same loose connection issue you mentioned. The new shop found it within 20 minutes of testing the heating element. Only paid 110€ for the diagnostic and repair, way better than the 450€ quote from the first place. They cleaned out the clogged nozzles while they were at it. No more heater malfunction warnings or frozen spray issues. The whole repair took under an hour and I didnt need any major parts replaced or bumper removal. Really glad I asked here before going ahead with the expensive repair. The washer system works perfectly now, even in freezing conditions. Sometimes the simplest fix is the right one.
