Thanks for the helpful details about the washer pump repair. Just had my latest service at 26534km, and the mechanic actually checked the wiper system but found no issues at that time. When pressing the washer lever, the pump makes no sound at all. I refilled the windshield washer fluid last week with the correct winter mixture. No other warning lights are showing on the dashboard besides the washer fluid warning. The wipers themselves move normally, just no fluid comes out. Based on your experience, it sounds like I might be dealing with a similar pump failure. Did your repair also require any special tools or was it a straightforward pump replacement?

Thanks for those details, it does sound exactly like what happened with my Polo. Since you mentioned there is no pump sound when activating the washer system, this strongly suggests a failed washer motor, just like in my case. The washer motor replacement was actually quite straightforward. The mechanic accessed it directly through the wheel well after removing a few plastic clips, no special tools needed beyond basic hand tools. A few things I learned from my repair that might help: The washer fluid level sensor gives false readings when the pump fails, A completely silent pump usually means electrical failure rather than just a blockage, Testing showed the windshield washer fuse was fine before replacement, The new pump resolved both the spraying issue and the incorrect level warning Given your symptoms match mine so closely, no pump noise, working wipers, false level warning, I would bet on the washer motor being the culprit. The repair cost should be similar to what I paid at around 25€ including labor. Just check that your wiper fluid lines are not frozen if you are in cold weather, but since you mentioned using winter mixture that is probably not the issue.

Thanks for the detailed response. Your experience really helped narrow down my issue. I just had the car checked and you were absolutely right, it was the washer motor that failed. The repair was exactly as you described. They accessed the pump through the wheel well and replaced it with minimal fuss. The total cost was actually 30€, just slightly more than yours. As soon as they installed the new washer motor, both the spray function and dashboard light issue were resolved immediately. The mechanic confirmed there were no blockages in the washer fluid lines and the level sensor is now reading correctly. The wiper system works perfectly again with good pressure from the spray jets. Really appreciate the accurate troubleshooting help. Would have spent more time and money trying other solutions if you had not shared your similar experience with the washer pump failure.

I had a similar issue with my 2016 VW Polo last winter. Having some experience with basic car maintenance, I first verified the washer fluid level was correct, yet the dashboard light stayed on. The wiper system completely stopped working despite having enough fluid. My diagnostic also showed error codes related to the washer pump. The workshop found that the wiper fluid pump had failed, causing false readings for the fluid level sensor. They also discovered some debris blocking the spray jets. The total repair included: Cleaning the entire washer fluid system, Replacing the faulty pump, Testing the level sensors, Clearing the error codes The repair cost was 25€ and fixed all issues, no more warning light and the spray jets work perfectly now. To better assist with your specific case, could you share: Have you checked if the pump makes any sound when activated? Did you recently refill the washer fluid? Are there any other dashboard lights showing? Have you noticed any unusual sounds from the wiper system?
