VW Virtus Cruise Control Failure Fix and Solutions

Looking for advice on cruise control failure in my 2021 VW Virtus. The cruise control suddenly stopped working completely and the dashboard light shows an error message. Already checked the fuse box and basic electrical connections. The throttle position seems normal during regular driving. Has anyone experienced similar issues and got them fixed? Particularly interested in what parts needed replacement and if the pedal switch could be the culprit. Would appreciate hearing about workshop diagnostic results and repair solutions that worked for you.

Had a very similar issue with my 2019 VW Polo last year. With some experience working on VW electrical systems, I initially thought it was just a blown fuse, but it turned out to be more complex. After checking the fuse box and basic connections myself, I noticed the brake pedal switch wasnt sending proper signals to the cruise control system. The workshop diagnosed a faulty wire connection at the pedal switch assembly. They had to partially remove some trim pieces under the dashboard to access and repair the connection. Total repair cost was 95€, which included diagnostic time and fixing the cable connection. The cruise control worked flawlessly after that. Its actually a fairly common issue in these VW models. To help troubleshoot your specific case, could you share: Are there any other electrical issues happening simultaneously? Does the brake light work normally? Can you hear the pedal switch click when pressing the brake? Have you noticed any issues with the steering wheel cruise control buttons? The steering wheel buttons connect through the clock spring, which could also cause similar symptoms if failing. With more details about your specific situation, I might be able to point you in the right direction.

Thanks for sharing those details. Since my last service at 65000km two months ago, Ive noticed the cruise control gets more unreliable. After reading your response, I checked the brake pedal switch and indeed there is no clicking sound when pressing it. Also noticed the cruise control dashboard light flickers occasionally before completely failing. The cruise control buttons on the steering wheel still light up normally when pressed, so I doubt its a clock spring issue. Think youre right about the pedal switch being the likely culprit. Will try to get the workshop to specifically check the wiring connections at the brake pedal assembly first before replacing any parts.

Thanks for the additional details, those symptoms definitely strengthen the pedal switch theory. When my VW had similar issues, I noticed the exact same pattern with the flickering dashboard light before complete failure. Given the similarity in our situations, I would strongly recommend having the workshop focus on the pedal switch area first. In my case, the wiring had developed a poor connection due to repeated pedal movement over time. The lack of clicking sound is particularly telling, as its almost identical to what I experienced. The fact that your steering wheel buttons still illuminate correctly further confirms its likely not a clock spring issue. The throttle position sensor also seems to be working fine since you mentioned no regular driving issues. After my repair, I learned these brake pedal switch issues often start showing up around 60000-70000km in these VW models. The intermittent nature of your problem matches the typical failure pattern, it usually gets worse gradually before failing completely. Make sure to request the workshop checks both the switch itself and the surrounding wiring harness. In my case, they initially wanted to replace the entire switch assembly, but just repairing the wiring connection solved the problem at a much lower cost.

Thanks everyone for your input. I just got back from the workshop and wanted to share the outcome. You were spot on about the brake pedal switch wiring. The mechanic found corroded connections at the brake pedal assembly, which was causing the intermittent cruise control failures and dashboard light issues. The speed sensor and throttle position readings were normal in their diagnostic scan. They cleaned the connections, repaired a damaged wire, and secured the harness better to prevent future wear. Total repair cost was 120€ including diagnostics. The cruise control now works perfectly and the dashboard light stays steady. The brake pedal switch also makes a proper clicking sound again. Really glad I didnt have to replace any major components. Will definitely keep an eye on the pedal switch area during future services to catch any issues early. Thanks again for helping me narrow down the problem area before going to the workshop. Saved time and money by pointing them in the right direction from the start.
