Weak battery and flickering lights in Opel Combo (2001, gasoline)

Hey guys, I have a concern with my 2001 Opel Combo (gasoline, 70709 km mileage). Every time I start the engine, the battery seems to be low and my lights flicker or go really dark in places. I have a suspicion that it could be the auxiliary battery. Have you ever had similar problems with your car and how did the garage fix it? I had an unpleasant experience with my mechanic last time, so I hope you can share some positive experiences. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I had a similar incident with my 2004 Opel Zafira. It also seemed as if the battery was not strong enough and my lights flickered just like yours. When I visited a mechanic, it was discovered that my battery was faulty. The mechanic replaced the battery and cleaned the contact points, as these were corroded, which could have led to a poor connection and therefore to the flickering. The problem was then solved. So it was already a serious problem, because without a working battery the car won't run. See if you have the same problem. Good luck with that!

Hey, thanks for your feedback! That sounds very similar to what I'm experiencing. Can you remember roughly how much the battery change and cleaning cost? And did anything else come up afterwards, or has everything been running smoothly since then?

Hey, you're welcome! My Zafira had the same problem as your Combo, except that my auxiliary battery was faulty. After the mechanic had a look over it, the fault was quickly found and rectified. The cost of fixing the battery fault was €290. Since then, everything has been back to normal and no further problems have arisen. Hope this helps you!

Great, that helps me a lot! I thought it might be something serious, but if it's "only" the auxiliary battery, it's quite manageable. I'll take your advice and just replace it and have the contact points cleaned. Thanks for the tip and for sharing your experience, that makes things a lot less stressful!
