Winner Gear Shift Indicator Problem
Summary of the thread
The gear shift indicator on a 2001 Nissan Winner diesel is malfunctioning, causing issues with gear engagement, poor automatic transmission shifting, gearbox slipping, grinding noises, and a non-functional gear selection display. Possible causes include problems with the shift knob, sensors, dashboard, gear shift system, or electronics. A similar issue was resolved by replacing a defective control unit, and professional diagnosis and repair are recommended.

Thanks! Could you tell me more about the 'defective control unit'? Where is it, and can I test it before replacing it?

I'm not qualified to give specific instructions on testing or location. If it's the same issue I'm thinking of, replacement is the only solution. I'd take it to a workshop to have a professional check it. Expect a repair bill of about 1000€.

Thanks for your help. A mechanic visit seems necessary. Knowing the possible cause and approximate cost will help me discuss it with the workshop.

I own a Winner too and remember reading about something similar. The problem was a defective control unit, if I recall.
