X Klasse steering problems after wheel alignment

My 2020 Mercedes X Klasse diesel is giving me headaches. It's approaching 300000 km and the steering has gone haywire. It feels like the power steering is failing, and it takes way more effort to turn. The steering wheel is vibrating like crazy. Could this be related to a defective steering sensor? I've heard that faulty coding of the steering angle sensor can mess things up, especially with alignment problems. Has anyone else experienced similar steering sensor issues? Any ideas on how to solve alignment problems that could be linked to the angle sensor?

Sounds familiar. I have an X Klasse too, and I had similar steering issues. Vibrating steering wheel, plus it felt heavy, especially at lower speeds. Have you had any wheel alignment work done recently? The steering sensor might need recalibration after that.

Wheel alignment was done a few weeks back actually, to try and fix some wandering issues I was having. So you think the new wheel alignment could have messed up the steering sensor and is causing the angle sensor to act up? Is that something I can easily fix myself, or am I looking at a workshop visit?

Yeah, the wheel alignment is the most likely culprit. Messing with the alignment can definitely throw off the steering angle sensor. Recalibrating it is usually best left to a workshop. They have the right tools to properly code the steering sensor. It's connected to the steering column, so don't mess with it yourself unless you know what you are doing.

Thanks for the heads up. I took it to the workshop, and you were spot on. They recoded the steering sensor, and the alignment problems vanished. It cost me 195€, but it's driving like new again. I really appreciate the advice about the recalibration and steering column.
