XC40 AC and Temperature Sensor Issue

Hi, I have a 2016 Volvo XC40 with a gasoline engine and about 91200 km on it. Recently, I'm getting an error message in the speedometer, and the air conditioning won't switch on at all. I scanned the error memory, and it points to a defective temperature sensor in the heat exchanger. Has anyone experienced something similar? I am a bit lost.

Hey there! That sounds like a real pain, especially with the AC not working. Is the engine temperature gauge acting normally, or is it fluctuating wildly? A faulty sensor could definitely mess with the AC, but it's worth double-checking the coolant level just in case. Low coolant can cause similar issues and throw off sensor readings.

Thanks for your reply! The engine temperature gauge seems normal, no unusual fluctuations. I checked the coolant level, and it's within the normal range. So, it does indeed seem like a sensor issue. Do you think it's possible that the air conditioning control unit itself could be the culprit?

Okay, if the coolant is fine and the engine temp is stable, but you're still getting that sensor error, then yeah, the AC control unit could be the problem, potentially misinterpreting the sensor data. However, based on the error code, I would bet that the sensor is indeed defective and the control unit is only indirectly affected. I'd suggest visiting a workshop to get it properly diagnosed before replacing parts randomly.

Thanks a lot for your input! I appreciate the advice. I took it to a workshop, and you were spot on. Turns out the temperature sensor in the heat exchanger was indeed defective. The repair, including replacing the sensor, came to 980€. Now the AC is working again!
