XC40 AC Failure

No, there's no sound of the compressor trying to engage, and the engine RPM doesn't change when I press the AC button. If it was just low refrigerant, wouldn't it still try to activate? What if the AC control unit is defective? Has that happened before?

The lack of compressor engagement points away from low refrigerant. A defective AC control unit could be the problem, especially with the error code. Modern HVAC systems are complex, so I'd recommend a qualified workshop for diagnosis and repair. They can pinpoint the cause. The repair might cost around 980€.

Thanks for confirming my fears. I'll schedule an appointment with my mechanic to check the AC control unit and do a thorough diagnostic evaluation.

Those symptoms sound troubling, definitely more than a fuse. When you say the AC won't engage, do you hear the compressor clutch trying to kick in? Does the engine RPM change slightly when you press the AC button? It could be a refrigerant issue or a faulty pressure sensor. I'd suggest checking the refrigerant pressure.
