XC40 Electric Power Reduction

I'm experiencing a weird issue with my 2023 Volvo XC40 electric. It's got about 77750 km on it. Recently, I've noticed a significant reduction in power, and after running a car diagnostic with an auto scanner, I found an error stored in the error memory. Could this be related to some faulty chip tuning done by third-party providers before I bought it, or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Interesting. I had a similar problem with my 2018 Audi A4 diesel a while back. Reduced power, fault code... Sound familiar? Did you notice any other symptoms? Maybe anything with the car computer? It turned out that a previous owner had installed a cheap aftermarket performance chip that messed with the engine management system. Could that be your problem too?

That's really helpful! You mentioned a 'cheap aftermarket performance chip'. How did you actually confirm that was the culprit? I'm trying to avoid expensive repairs if possible, and I am curious if you used a specific auto scanner to identify the problem?

Well, the mechanic was pretty sure after plugging in their diagnostic tool. They found evidence of the remap. The error codes pointed towards inconsistencies in the fuel/air mixture and turbo boost, things that a poorly installed chip would cause. Honestly, the only real way to confirm is to take it to a trusted workshop. Better safe than sorry, right?

Thanks for sharing your experience! I took it to a workshop, and you were spot on. Apparently, a previous owner had indeed installed some dodgy chip tuning. They removed it, cleared the error codes, and now it's running smoothly again. Cost me about 180€, but it was worth it for the peace of mind.
