XC40 exhaust back pressure sensor issue

I've got a 2021 Volvo XC40 with a gasoline engine and I'm experiencing some issues. The car has 184435 km. A warning light appeared and I'm also noticing smoke when accelerating. I've run a diagnostic and it points to a defective exhaust back pressure sensor. Has anyone else encountered this? Any advice before I take it in?

Hey there. I have an XC40 as well, though I won't say the year. I had a similar issue a while back with the warning light and smoke. The diagnostic also pointed to the exhaust back pressure sensor. Did the diagnostic give you any specific error codes?

Thanks for the quick response! Yes, the error code was P0471. Did replacing the sensor fix the problem for you, and do you remember the cost?

P0471 rings a bell. Replacing the sensor did the trick for me. I wouldn't mess with the exhaust system myself. I would go to a reputable workshop. I think you'll find the repair cost is worth the peace of mind.

Thanks so much for the help. I took it to the workshop as you suggested. The sensor was indeed defective, and they replaced it. The total cost was 245€. Everything seems to be running smoothly now!
