XC40 Jerking and Hissing Noise

My 2018 Volvo XC40 diesel (202497 km) has an intermittent check engine light, jerking during acceleration, and a whistling noise that becomes a loud hissing sound when I accelerate hard. Sometimes the engine stalls at idle. Fuel consumption is up, and power is reduced. I suspect a bad boost pressure sensor; the cable or plug connection looks suspect. Anyone else had similar issues?

Interesting. I have an XC40 as well, and those symptoms sound awfully familiar. I had similar jerking and hissing, along with the engine light. Have you checked for any boost leaks around the turbocharger or intake manifold? It might be worth a look before condemning the sensor outright.

Thanks for the quick response. I did a visual inspection of the hoses and intercooler but didn't find anything obvious. Where exactly did you find the boost leak in your case, or was it indeed the sensor?

In my case, it turned out to be a combination of a cracked hose near the intake and a faulty sensor. Honestly, given the complexity of the turbo system and the potential for further damage, I'd recommend a visit to a trusted workshop. They have the right equipment to properly diagnose and resolve the issue.

Appreciate the advice. I took it to a shop and you were spot on - faulty boost pressure sensor. They replaced it and fixed a loose connection. Total cost was 95€. Runs like new now.
