XC40 Remote Locking Failure
Summary of the thread
A 2023 Volvo XC40 electric vehicle is experiencing issues with remote locking and unlocking, and the engine requires the key to be physically in the ignition to start. These problems may be linked to a Body Control Module failure. However, a suggestion to check the bumper antenna connections reveals a faulty cable, which is confirmed and resolved by a workshop visit. The repair involves replacing the defective cable, resolving the issue.

The bumper antenna? I admit, I hadn't considered that. Where exactly is it located, and is it something I could inspect myself without specialized tools? Any potential pitfalls I should watch out for?

It's usually behind the bumper cover, but exact location varies. Given the electrical gremlins it's causing, and you mentioning error codes, a workshop visit might be best. Could save you from causing more issues by poking around. They'll pinpoint it quickly with diagnostics.

You were spot on! Took it to the shop, and it was indeed a defective cable connection to the bumper antenna. The whole repair including a new cable ended up costing me 95€ Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Those symptoms do sound interconnected. Have you checked the bumper antenna connections? A faulty cable or plug there can cause all sorts of communication problems. It's a common enough issue, especially with that mileage.
