XC60 AC Failure

Alright, I've got a 2010 Volvo XC60, diesel engine, with nearly 200,000 km on the clock. Recently, the air conditioning has completely given up. No cold air whatsoever, an error in the error memory, a warning light flickering, and the system refuses to switch on. The local garage has diagnosed it as a possible defective AC control unit, stating that the refrigerant compressor is dead, almost 1000€ to fix! Anyone else experienced similar AC unit issues in their XC60? Is there anything else I should be checking before I shell out that kind of money? Could it really be the control unit?

Hey! Funny enough, I had almost the exact same problem with my XC60. AC suddenly stopped working, and I also suspected it might be the compressor. Did they actually check the refrigerant levels, or the pressure switch? Seems a bit drastic to jump straight to the control unit.

That's interesting! Glad to hear I'm not alone at least. I don't know the specifics of what they checked, they just said it was the compressor. You mentioned your XC60 had the same problem... How did you end up solving it? Was it the control unit in the end, or something else entirely?

Yeah, so I did a bit of digging around online, and honestly, AC systems are a pain. I don't have the equipment to diagnose it, so I brought mine to the workshop and they confirmed the initial diagnosis: faulty compressor AND control unit. They replaced both, and it’s been ice cold ever since. Looks like you need to brace yourself for the bill, I'm afraid.

Thanks for sharing your experience! It sounds like I'm heading down the same path. I was hoping for a quick fix but, given all the symptoms, the control unit issue sounds plausible. I'll bite the bullet and get it sorted at the shop. It's never a simple job, is it? Fingers crossed it'll be blowing cold air again soon!
