XC60 Active Hood Fault Airbag Light

I've got an XC60 as well and I ran into a similar issue a while back. The "Active hood fault" message popped up along with the airbag light. Did you notice anything out of the ordinary before it happened? Maybe a hard bump or anything that could have triggered the crash detection system?

Is there a way to check the crash detection system myself, or is it something that definitely needs professional attention?

Yeah, a pothole could definitely do it. In my case, it turned out to be a faulty acceleration sensor related to the active hood system. It's part of the crash detection system, designed to pop the hood in a collision to protect pedestrians. I wouldn't recommend messing with it yourself, as it's tied into the airbag system. Best bet is to get it checked out at a workshop.
