XC60 Overheating Error Memory Message

I've got a 2016 Volvo XC60 diesel and I'm getting an 'Error stored in the error memory' message. The engine also seems to be overheating. I've heard it might be the bypass valve, but could this be a symptom of something else? It's done 145922 km. Any thoughts?

Interesting. I had a similar issue with my old Peugeot 308. Same error message, and the engine was definitely running hotter than usual. In my case, it turned out to be a cascading failure from a faulty sensor messing with the air intake. Was the Volvo showing any other signs, like engine stalling or power loss?

Hmm, power loss... maybe a little, but I thought I was imagining it. And now that you mention it, fuel efficiency seems to have taken a hit. But a faulty sensor causing the bypass valve issue? Is that even possible?

It’s not always a direct cause and effect, but on the Peugeot, the faulty sensor was sending incorrect data to the engine management system. This, in turn, caused the bypass valve to malfunction, as it was reacting to incorrect parameters. Given the overheating and error message, I'd recommend getting it checked at a workshop. Could be a consequential error as it was in my case.

Thanks for the advice. Took it to a shop, and you were spot on! It was indeed a faulty sensor throwing everything else off. They fixed the sensor, and that cleared the bypass valve issue and overheating, it didn't need replacing. Repair cost 0€!
