XC60 preheating lamp stays on

Hi, I'm having trouble with my 2018 Volvo XC60 diesel with 185139 km. The preheating lamp on the dashboard doesn't switch off. I plugged it into a reader, and it's showing an error stored in the error memory. It sounds like a glow plug issue. Has anyone else experienced this? Any thoughts on what I should do next? I'm worried about fuel efficiency and potential engine damage if I leave it.

Hey! I had a similar issue with my XC60 – though mine's a bit older. If the preheating light is staying on and you're getting an error code, it's almost definitely a glow plug. Did you notice any rough idling or the check engine light on as well?

Thanks for the quick reply! No rough idling that I've noticed, and the check engine light isn't on, just the persistent preheating light. Is it something that needs immediate attention, or can I drive it for a bit before getting it sorted?

Okay, no check engine light is good! But honestly, if it IS a glow plug, I wouldn't leave it too long. A defective glow plug can cause incomplete combustion, especially in colder weather, and that can lead to other issues. That can lead to other issues down the line. I'd get it checked by a workshop soon. It ended up costing me around 440€ to get mine fixed.

Thanks so much for the advice! I'll book it in with a workshop this week then. Knowing it's likely a glow plug and roughly what it will cost is a great help. Really appreciate it!
