XC60 Transmission Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2020 Volvo XC60 diesel experienced transmission issues, including warning lights, emergency mode, and rough gear shifts. The problem was linked to a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor, potentially caused by low gearbox oil. It was suggested to check the transmission oil level, which was confirmed to be low by a professional, leading to a sensor replacement and oil top-up, resolving the issue.

Thanks! No, I haven't checked the transmission oil level myself. Is it easy to do, or is it a pain to get to? Where should I be looking, and what tool will I need?

While it's possible to check yourself, accessing the transmission oil level can be tricky. Given the error code and symptoms, it's advisable to have it checked professionally, especially if you're not familiar with the process. Better to get it to a trusted workshop.

Okay, thanks. I took it to the shop, and you were right! The gearbox oil level was too low, triggering the sensor issue. Cost me 365€ including the sensor replacement and a top-up. Shifting smoothly again!

I had a similar issue with my XC60. Same symptoms, engine light and all. Have you checked your transmission oil level specifically? It's known to cause these sensor errors and the rough shifting you're describing.
