That's a great analogy. I'll check the wiring harness. Is there a common point where these wires tend to fail, or should I inspect the entire length within the door?

In my case, the break was right where the harness bends as it enters the door frame. However, given the age of our cars, a thorough inspection wouldn’t hurt. If the wiring is fine, you are probably best served to take it to the workshop.

Thanks for the advice. It was indeed the switch. Replaced it and works now. The total repair ended up costing around 200€.

I had almost identical symptoms in my XC70. The regulator motor was faulty, but before tearing things apart, did you check the wiring harness where it enters the door? Those wires can fatigue and break, causing the same issue. Think of it like a garden hose that kinks near the faucet – water stops flowing even if the faucet is open.
