I hadn't considered a fluid level issue. Can you explain how to check the transmission fluid level on the XC70? Are there specific tools or techniques I should know? Did you experience any long-term consequences from driving with the low fluid level before fixing it?

Checking the fluid level is tricky; you'll need the car level and access the dipstick near the transmission. Check your owner's manual for the location. Given the grinding noises, I'd recommend taking it to a Volvo specialist. They can properly diagnose it and ensure the correct fluid is used and the level is precisely set. Driving with low fluid can cause permanent transmission damage, so it's not worth the risk.

Your advice was invaluable! I took my XC70 to a Volvo technician. The transmission fluid level was critically low. After inspection, fluid top-up, and replacement of the faulty pressure sensor, it's running smoothly again. The total cost was 365€. Thank you for helping me avoid potential transmission damage!

I had a similar issue with my XC70. Same symptoms, including the grinding noise. The error codes pointed to the pressure sensor, but the actual problem was low transmission fluid. The sensor is just reporting the symptom, not the disease. Have you checked the fluid level yourself? It's worth a shot before anything more complex.
