XC90 Audio System Failure

Sounds frustrating. I've seen a few XC90s with similar audio problems around that year. Does the display at least light up, or is it completely dead? Have you noticed any flickering or dimming of the dashboard lights? The error code is key; can you get the exact code? That could point us in the right direction.

That communication error, coupled with the completely dead display, points strongly towards a defective display unit. It's a common problem on those models. While it could be a wiring issue, that's less likely given the symptoms. You're probably looking at replacing the unit. A workshop will be able to confirm with further testing, but expect a replacement. They can be quite pricey. Better to get a professional to check all the connections.
