XC90 belt tensioner failure

Alright, I'm a bit stressed. My 2016 Volvo XC90 diesel (68085 km on the clock) is throwing a fit. I think I have a bad belt tensioner since my belt-handover no longer works at all. I suspect it's the defective belt bringer/handover itself. Anyone else dealt with this? It's driving me nuts!

I've got an XC90 too, though not sure I can remember the year. Sounds like you've got the infamous timing belt tensioner issue. Is it making a godawful squealing noise, especially on cold starts? If so, that tensioner pulley is likely shot. The belt can jump on the tensioner itself, and damage the engine.

Yep, you nailed it! The noise is awful, especially when it's cold. So, the squealing definitely points to the tensioner pulley, huh? Is this like, a 'get it fixed ASAP' kinda thing, or can I nurse it a bit?

Definitely get it fixed ASAP. If the belt fully walks off, you can say goodbye to your engine. I'd trailer it to a trusted mechanic or a Volvo workshop. The cost for repair was about 455€ on my car.

Thanks a ton for the advice! Seriously, you saved me from potentially grenading my engine. I'll get it straight to the shop tomorrow. Problem solved! Defective belt tensioner repair cost 455€
