XC90 Limp Mode and ABS Issue

My 2006 Volvo XC90 with a gasoline engine is in what I think is limp mode related to the transfer case. The gearbox seems to slip and shifts uncleanly. I've read this can be related to the ABS system causing consequential faults and impacting traction control. Has anyone experienced anything similar? The diagnostic trouble codes don't clearly point to a mechanical failure, more like a powertrain malfunction linked to the gear selector. Any guidance?

Hey, I had something similar happen in my XC90. Does it feel like it's struggling to find the right gear? Like a hesitation?

Yes, exactly! That's a perfect description. Especially when accelerating from a stop, there's a definite hesitation, a slip, before it finally engages. Was it the transfer case for you as well?

Yeah, I thought it was the transfer case at first too, but it turned out to be a weird ABS thing triggering it. I'd get it checked by a workshop, those issues can be tricky to diagnose properly.

Thank you so much for the insight. I'll definitely take it to a trusted mechanic and mention the ABS system as a possible culprit. After checking the ABS system, it turned out to be only a faulty signal that confused the entire system, so the eventual repair cost was 0€, thanks!
